My dad just bought a ‘78 FJ43. He’s had it for a few weeks, but it just started developing this weird noise. I’ve never heard anything like this before. It almost sounds like a horn going out, but it’s not. Thinking it has to be fan clutch or alternator going out, thoughts?

Vacuum leak? Belt noise is usually more of a squeal in my experience. Bearing noise is usually more of a whine. That's a new one on me.

We just worked on a Cummins generator that had a nice wailing horn sound like that, our tech knew the sound immediately. Intake gasket leak, the turbo was blowing air across the leak so hard it acted like a reed.

Short story, I'm with @1911 sounds like a vacuum leak to me, I'd focus around the manifold gasket.

Or you have a joker for a buddy and he's hidden an air horn can somewhere somehow.
