I have a chance at a 2F from a 86 FJ60, will this go into my 78 FJ40 without much trouble? Are the clutches the same?
Thanks

Yes, the long block is interchangeable. You may need to swap manifolds, bellhousing, motor mounts, accessory brackets, heater pipes...

That is a good upgrade, because the 85-87 2F has all the best/final upgrades before development stopped.

Whats the history (health) of the 60 motor?

JimC (FJ40Jim) knows his stuff - listen to him.

I put a 83 FJ60 2F into a 1976 FJ55.

The biggest problem I had was having to source a fairly obscure water pump to fit - no other real problems besides that - oh, and did upgrade from a ballast resistor to a real coil and ignitor (I think I got that right).

But, I'm told a 40 has more room so the water pump problem for me might not be a problem for you.

It does have ample room.........
