I have a 78 FJ40 that needs a new engine, I found one out of a 86 FJ60. What are the differences between the 2? Will I run into alot of problems or will it just bolt up? Any help or advice would be appricated.
Thanks

The Long blocks are very similar but you get the power steeering pump bracket holes.

If it were me, I would swap them and reassemble using all of your 1978 intake and exhaust. You make have to file the center mounting holes out in the intake just a few strokes.

Leave the Big Distributor and side cover in the FJ60 2F.

Go for it.......

The exhaust hook up is the only ? area, that is if you plan on using the 60 manifold......

Know the history of that 60 motor?

i have an 86 2f thats going into my 75 40 that i bought off a mud member. its been desmogged, but he said he had re-tapped the rear mounts on the bell housing for the 40 mounts i believe. i am going to be using headers and have the stock intake and carb hopefully gets here today.

Exhaust hookup should be the same, going from a '78 3-piece manifold, to a 86 3-piece manifold?

Does that hold true with the mani. in the pic below?
