Is a cam timing gear for the 2F (54 tooth) any different from that for a 3FE (54 tooth)?

Yes, FJ40 2F is steel, 3FE is resin compound.

The cam timing is retarded several degrees for 3F. Is the change made by moving the keyway in the gear or on the cam? I don't recall, but it's probably in the 1988 new features book.
