OK !! I've read hints that our government is going the way of Australia by imposing a 25 year impotation limit to Vehicles:ban:  .. That we love and enjoy...:)

So anyone got the info we need to read to be abreast  of this situation..??
If you have the info where do we go to read up on what is going to happen..??:crybaby:

I guess I missed something along the way:rolleyes:

Hello Richard,

There has been talk of this for at least a year now (that I have know about it)
As far as I know it's just talk.

Until I see/read something concrete, I am not don't to pay to much attention, or perpetuate the rumor. There are a lot of rumors floating around, about a lot of things due to importing and DOT/SAE compliance. Much has little to do with fact, and is just opinion. I try to only post what I know/believe/understand is true, and not mention maybes.

With that being said, have you found anything in writing or anything brought forth in the Hansard (etc...) to suggest otherwise?

Cheers,
Nick

i have been hearing this for many years... if it happens it does... if it doesn't then life goes on...
i can just see the value of high end RHD going through the roof.. maybe i will sit on a few for a while...ultra rare, diesel... yep
can you see the price of a good skyline if that ruling takes place?

Hey Nick thanks for that reply. (hope your enjoying your new ride)
I've just picked up snipets here and there about it.
So thought I'd post up the question. I figured if it was going to happen some one would know about it..

Wayne - I was thinking the same thing. That the JDM's that are in the country if it did happen would sky rocket in price.. Gets one thinking dosn't it..

Thanks Guys

I was told by Customs 2 weeks ago that Transport Canada is working on this. Ask them directly I suppose to find fact or fiction. The writing has been on the wall for awhile.....fact is buy now. Let the bidding wars being! .....And you can own the re-painted grade 4 HJ61 up for auction tonight with 223,000 kms. wonderful.

Have Fun!
Johnny

i just got off the phone with Nezi in Ottawa and there is NOTHING in the works this way. just another rumour to try and drive the prices up and to increase panic sales...
cheers and relax

Cool. Good stuff Wayne.

Great Wayne..
That answers the question I possed...........

Just rumors..

Thanks

I contacted Transport Canada. I have a letter stating that Transport Canada is trying to make a recommendation to increase the year to 25 Year but nothing as of yet. They promised to write me back with a phase in time once it is in effect. So guys who are saying it is all rumors, are WRONG. I can scan and attach the letter if you want.

Please do..
Would stop rumors and put the facts on the table.

Thanks

I have had some discussions with TC people here in Ottawa and elsewhere recently, most say that there is scuttlebutt about changing to the 25 year rule. There is nothing solid, but there is talk of it. I think most of it stems from the knuckleheads who kill themselves in skylines and other cars, and dishonest importers who are trying to scam the system by bringing in newer than 15 year old vehicles - happens often.

Don't take this the wrong way as it is not meant to be fear mongering to boost sales as some would say, but it is a reality. I am sure that most eveyone who has dealt with me would tell you that I am one of the lowest pressure salesmen there are out there - so that probably makes me a really bad salesman, oh well.

If someone asked me if the rules are changing I would say no as there is nothing in writing, if someone asked me if they are changing the rules I would say in my opinion this will not last forever - and it won't - but it could be several years before it changes.

Just my opinion.

Oh, and I'd like to see the letter as well.

Regards,

once again i contacted transport canada and the lady i talked to has not heard of this proposal but she has sent me to a gent that is a top enforcer for transportation Canada.

he confirmed there is a study in the works (thanks mdrive for the heads up) of issues involving 10 year old vehilces and that this could affect the 15 year importation ruling. i chatted for 35 minutes with the gent. it comes down to emisions, safety, non-complience and inept drivers (amazing where conversaions can travel).
he gave me a gent to contact higher up yet to voice my concerns. i will be in contact with this man in the near future.

at this point it is still fear mongering and any importer that pushes sales due to this study is misleading his customers.

time frame, IF THE STUDY DETERMINES A CHANGE IS NEEDED is 1.5-2 years after the possible new ruling is implimented.

at this time we have nothing to worry about.

I would not be surprised if something happened. The "drifters" in RHD skylines are not helping us much. Unfortunately, the drifting is happening on the street, and the results speak for themselves. (CRASHES. LOTS)

Unfortunately I have only anecodotal information, which is statistically invalid, but if this keeps up, I bet the powers that be will "address" the problem.

i am hoping that common sense will dictate.
(common sense = goverment?? NOT!!) higher insurance rates for high horse power cars instead of just a blanket shutting of the doors.
this threat has hovered over the importation for years. the investigation is looking at the lack of maintainence of 10 year old NA units and "could" affect the importation ruling. in either way the final desicion is years away.

It took Australia years to implement their new importation rules. This is the Feds were talking about - nothing happens without Bills, readings, Parliament, all of which take ages...
