24V OEM Radio convert to 12V (1 Viewer)

Recently purchased a 1988 FJ62. It came with a cheesy after market CD player - which I removed and want to replace with something original-ish.
Bought an awesome OEM BJ 24V cassette deck on ebay. Does anyone have experience converting for use with the 12V system in the FJ62? Worth buying a step up converter just for this radio?
