22RE engin idles uneven question (1 Viewer)

Hello,

My 89 4 Runner has the 22 RE engine with auto gear box. As the weather has gotten colder now, the engine has started to act funny sometimes. When idling in neutral it sometimes runs uneven meaning reving up and reving down. Sometimes it is fine. It doesn't depend on the engine temperature since it appears whenever whereever. What could that be? Is the air mass flow sensor going? Or some coolant temp senor starting to go, causing the EFI to act funny?

Any ideas?

I think WristPin is on the right track. When my 22RE airflow sensor went, engine would start but die immediately upon accleration.

my friend had same problem, got it fixed, i think it was called break idle sensor

your throttle position sensor is probably out of adjustment
