I have an unreasonable amount of want for a Civic. I like the GR too, but there’s just something about this Honda. It certainly helps it’s not hideous like the last generation.

Not surprising results. This iteration of the CTR is too pedestrian in the looks department. It just looks like a regular Civic with a big AutoZone wing bolted to the trunk lid. I can appreciate subtlety in a performance car but the pendulum has swung completely in the other direction from the last version.

I need subtle, minus the dumb wing. The GR is a lot louder IMO, but I still like it. I’ve always appreciated the Golf R because it looks like something an adult would drive.

Seems like the new type R is getting a lot of hate for not being as good as the old gen

No wings. But not quite suitable for adults, either.

"Honda. We make it simple."

That was back in 1989. Loved that car, but she went back to Honda due to pink paint after about 18 months.

I'm struggling to like anything new these days. But I certainly applaud manufacturers who continue to offer manual transmissions.

I do love a small Honda I4. It was no sportscar but I miss my manual CRV for city driving. The gears were so short I could rev it out through 3rd and with a short ram the K24 sounded stupid in the best way. I want a fit with a manual K20 swap and looked at a few listings before I bought my LS

The first car I ever bought (financed) when I was a senior in high school was a 94 Integra GSR manual. That car was fun to drive. V-TEC kicked you in the pants like a spooled up turbo, or at least I thought. The shifter was so tight, no slop at all. The Integra was flooded out in a wicked rain storm while I was in college so I bought a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD 5spd with 75k miles for $2700 (those were the days!). There's just nothing better than rowing gears in a turbo charged AWD vehicle. So much control and constant entertainment. I wish I still had that car for winter duties, it was unstoppable with Blizzaks on.

Sounds like you all need to buy Steve’s Civic SI!

@TRFCSUX I teed it up now sell the thing!!

Original and track editions!

Are those yours?
Yes those are both @TRFCSUX cars. One on the left is a very well maintained stock SI. The one on the Right is a very fast very fun SI with an Acura motor and 6speed trans.
I would love to own both but one daughter refuses to drive a stick and the other rolled her SI and is afraid of flashbacks.

Steve doesn’t post during the day he is worried his boss will see him surfing the internet during work!

The original Nissan SE-R . Total sleepers

Civic Si, Corolla FX16 GTS, Mazda 323 GTX. Three solid options if you didn't have the money or desire to own a GTI in the late 80s. The Nissan SE-R really upped the level of play when it came it out a year or two later.

The Escort and Excel sorta looked the part, but weren't really in the game, IMO.

When I was shopping around in '89, one of the first cars I drove was this one:

That little hatch had an excellent motor, but damn! the rest of the car was trash. MSRP was only $1K less than the Civic Si, which felt like it was built of solid granite, by comparison.

Sarah had one. License plate was CSARAHGO. What a horrible car.
Did the transmission fall out or did the radiator blow up? Neighbor down the road had one. Babied it as a commuter car and trans went at 52K he got the first under warranty the 2nd and 3rd were on him and we did them in his driveway. He had a tree fall on it and the insurance company said it was close but they would fix it. While it was at the body shop to be fixed someone stole it and drove it into lake Brittle and it was totaled then. I always laughed at that story but never asked the question.
