2021 Land Cruiser - Dealer Damage to Rims

New to this site and wanted to pulse the group regarding a most disturbing event. Brought my 2021 LC in for the 5000 service and after receiving the vehicle back I noticed markings and actual chips in the rims in and around the lug nut portals. All four rims were impacted some more so then others, Brought the vehicle back to the dealer and they said " we will take care of it" and made an appt for me to bring it back and they would have their rim specialist repair the damage.
My issue is this is a brand vehicle and they are repairing. Looking for thoughts on if i should request replacement - any comments / direction most appreciated.

perhaps the scars of the dealership "Express Lube" operators.... this looks like impact wrench related issues. Sorry to see it.
 
Ask if they did use an impact wrench? If so, lugs could be over-torqued and potentially lead to failure.

While not true for all dealers, someone on Mud said that the worst part of owning a Land Cruiser is the dealer experience.
 
Perfect example of exemplary dealership work.

Pep Boys scratched my brand new SCS wheels, they paid for the install and refunded me the cost of the wheels.

I’d expect Toyota to replace them.
 
Replace the rims with Heritage Edition rims……just for them to make it up to you for your troubles. :)

If they won’t replace the rims, then pressure to give you free extended Toyota Platinum warranty…of whatever length you choose.

Personally, since i off-road, and i have a few scratches already on my rims, i would benefit more from the extended warranty.
 
Honestly dude, mine look way worse. The dealer has murdered my wheels. Try to get them to replaced if you want, but it will just happen again. They treat $90k vehicles the same as the 10 year old Corolla that pulls in behind you. Sad but true. Accept that this is not a collectible or a museum piece and replace them when they truly get knarly looking.
 
I was not paying close attention I guess, I am blaming my phone. I thought the black marks were the damaged areas. Those little scratches can be easily fixed by a wheel repair shop.

Pain in the butt to bring the truck back and lose it for a day, free loaner or not.

Yeah for those small but numerous nicks, i doubt that they will give him new rims. Thus, maybe negotiate extended warranty or other accessories. Because rims will be scratched esp if you take it off-road.

For anyone new to toyota maintenance, LOCK YOUR GLOVE BOX AND KEEP THE KEY BLADE WITH YOU. This way they *cant* break your recirculate door. Very common issue, and the warning sticker on newer trucks is not enough to get them to pay attention.

If they try to respray the whole wheels, do not let them. This will not be anywhere near the strength of factory paint/PC (not sure what they use), and won't match, so when it starts coming off in 20k miles, it'll be glaringly obvious and you won't have any recourse. If it's just touch-up, I'd give them a chance, but if they can't make these things basically perfect, I'd be demanding new wheels, and questioning the quality of the rest of their service.

See above about recirc flap, and don't let them rotate the tires, say you'll do it yourself. Plus they probably won't do a proper 5-tire rotation anyway.

Edit: Or as @04UZJ100 said don't bring it at all. Find a good indy, or do it yourself. Basically the only way to ensure all of this is done correctly.

If they use torque sticks correctly impacts are fine.. but based on the quality of this work I wouldn't count on it. Yes, I'd be rechecking torque at home, personally.

OT, the instructions for the TRD Rock Warriors say NOT to use an impact. I wrap the special socket in electrical tape to protect the rim, yet whenever I get it back from the dealer, the tape is twisted off. Only one way for that to happen.
 
Another reason to find a quality indy shop to take your truck. If you can afford a land cruiser, you can afford oil changes and tire rotations.
Fair :) was thinking about the local Lexus dealership. i Always worry there will be a warranty issue if not taken to the dealership, though know that’s not legal.
