Yep, Ali doing what he does best. Finding ways to spend other people's money.
Psssssssst … I approve!

When you got none, you live through others....doncha know

Sorry for the delay in posting pics, I didn’t have much of a signal the past couple of days. Now that I have much better signal, I’ll get caught up.

Day 4: Arches National Park

I hiked the coolest canyon called Park Avenue, named after New York City’s Park Avenue because of the tall canyon walls and rock outcroppings like the Three Gossips, the Courthouse Towers, The Organ etc.

BOULDER!!! Go up the Burr Trail. You can take it all the way to Capitol Reef NP. The campground at Capitol Reef is a giant, grassy, park. Great place.

Geez, I might need to load up.

I thought about hittin up the Burr Trail, but it just didn’t work out. Capitol Reef is amazing! I’m going to post those photos next.

Hahahaha you definitely should!

So excellent!! Great camera work!

Day 6: Capitol Reef National Park

So, Capitol Reef has some interesting history. Early Native Americans inhabited this place before the Mormon settlers came. Then the Mormons came and farmed and mined the land. In the 50s, during the Cold War, the government urged miners to mine uranium to supply the it with nuclear materials for weapon production. National parks all over the country opened their gates, so to speak, to miners. The Cold War changed the face of many national parks permanently due to the mining practices. Capitol Reef was one such place. The miners had luck enough to only find trace amounts of uranium, however. Their efforts have left the area with high amounts of radiation, so the park recommends that visitors only spend 1 day in that particular area of The Grand Wash because of those levels. Just like with Chernobyl, albeit with a much smaller radioactive impact, life continues on in The Grand Wash, and Capitol Reef, in spite of what humans have done to the earth. The history is so interesting! I highly recommend you visit this park.

Day 6: Capitol Reef Nt’l Park Cont.

Driving through the park, I kept seeing what looked like huge spider webbed cocoons in the trees. It freaked me out! Curiosity finally won out over my fear, and come to find out, there’s caterpillars in them! I’m not sure if it’s a mass cocoon situation or what, but it’s kind of cool but creepy. @pappy I know you’re more of a plant guy, but do you happen to know what kind of caterpillars spin web cocoons to house multiple caterpillars?

Tent caterpillar. I'm guessing you saw them on the cottonwood trees.

Super pictures and report. That pretty 4Runner will certainly need a bath! Hope you continue to have a great trip!

Capitol Reef is one of my favorites just because it was so quiet when all the others in the area are a zoo. I did a trip after Cruise Moab 2015 where we went to Arches, Canyonlands (Island in the Sky), Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion. Arches, Bryce and Zion were the worst with crowds. Capitol Reef was so quiet and out of the way. We even almost got caught in a flash flood which was exciting, but only because we didn't actually get caught in it, just saw it VERY close to us.

Capitol Reef was actually pretty busy. The least busy park I visited was Black Canyon of the Gunnison. I wish I had planned for a 2nd day at Zion because a storm blew in and cut into my hiking/exploring time.

Good thing it was only a close call with that flash flood! It must’ve been exciting, though.

Sorry these pics are so late, but it’s been a whirlwind since Zion. I finally got some time to finish up.

Day 7: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

Escalante was a very cool drive down the UT-12. It’s very scenic and, at times, is a little harrowing. But the views are truly spectacular and make up for the fear factor of the drive.
