We need to get our 5th Gens together....

Indeed! Hopefully we will be meeting up on the trail this spring/summer.

Couple of shots from the last Sourdough run. Added a CVT awning with walls and floor. Will work as the changing room, cooler room, snow shelter or extra sleeping area when needed. Also serves as an awning for summer fun without putting up the walls and floor, but that wasn't the main reason for getting it. The big test is snow camping which I better make happen this year!

The ADD failed the day before the Sourdough run so I only had 2wd in and out with the trailer. I actually had less wheel spin by having to focus on lines and the skinny pedal. GP Toyota has swapped out 5 of the ADD units this year in FJ's, Tacos and Runners. It seems the motor that moves the fork to engage 4WD can bind and cause the problem. Will be swapped out tomorrow under warranty. I still prefer manual hubs, mechanical shift levers and rotary dial phones!

I didn't notice anything driving, didn't pull any different and I didn't have to worry about cornering. Brat did say that he did not see a tire come off the ground this time but that could be because I was babying it with 2wd and a new trailer set up. I should be back to hammering it on the August run which will give a better read on how the wider stance and bigger tires do.

Another note on the trailer. The bump stops did hit and the tires did rub the fenders at the top. I might look at putting in an add-a-leaf and picking up a little bit more. That may allow me to run a straight receiver out of the new bumper that is coming instead of the drop receiver flipped that I have now. More fine tuning needed.

Got the ADD fixed. I know the tech who did the work and he hooked me up with a used unit that works fine and some new sealant! He said if you ever get stuck and can't get out without 4WD you can swap it out on the trail, 4 bolts accessible with a box end wrench after dropping the skid plate. Not too bad.

Will wait for warranty to expire then look at either SAS or locking the ADD into 4wd and adding hubs.

Got Luke's rear bumper finally. Getting close to finishing my initial list of mods for this thing.

They don't offer the 3.5 in 4runners, only tacomas for some reason. I have a buddy who has one and he doesn't mind the power but he hates the transmission. Once he regeared it he was happy though. Has less low end grunt than the 4.0.

Even the 4.0 is weak in my opinion. For some reason the Nissan's all seem peppy though.

Got the trailer lined up behind the new bumper using the straight pintle hook instead of the "dropped" one flipped over to get it level. Much better.

Looks really sweet! What would be on your "secondary" list of mods?!
