I have been looking for a 200 and found a 2016 for a great price. The problem is the car fax shows no service history and nothing comes up under the Toyota owners websites except for a navigation/radio issue. The truck has 36k, one owner, and is spotless otherwise. Would this scare you off? I guess oil changes could have been done at jiffy lube or DIY.

maybe ask the seller why? toyota's come with 2 years of free maintenance so no reason not to take advantage of that, i still wouldn't be scared off though, these are bulletproof trucks, as long as there isn't any paint work or accidents i wouldn't worry too much. ask questions and see what your gut says

I just did the 60k service over the weekend myself. Even if I enter the service performed on the Toyota owners website, it will not show up in Toyota's maintenance history. If a third party performs the service it's reasonable to assume it would not show up either, but I would want to confirm that the service has been performed. How to do that is the question.

It is a dealer trade so I'm not sure if they would be willing to contact the previous owner. The fact that they didn't use the Toyota care kind of scares me. I pretty much ruled out DIY since the percentage of owners working on a new 200 themselves is small (probably only people on Mud).

I have had trouble w toyota basic service. I know it is their new peon employees doing these services, but I have had skid bolts stripped, the wrong grade of oil put in, hood scratched, and a filter overtightened (used a wrench) which resulted in splashed oil all over my engine bay (the last time I trusted toyota w oil changes). The paper filters on these worries me even more that my filter would not even get changed at a dealer or other mechanic. I used to make marks with a sharpie on the old filter to ensure it was changed.

I now do my own maintenance, and keep the receipts. It is a PITA, but from experience, I dont trust Toyota's lube techs. That said, I agree that it is odd that someone skipped the free toyota maintenance, as most people want the free service. As much as these rigs cost, I would keep looking unless you get a screaming deal.

I wouldn't worry. There is not sane person who doesn't change an oil. I have 2016 as well and you will not find any history either beside the repairs mentioned and only on Toyota web site self reported by me. I do all my oil changes myself. Previously had bolts missing, skid plate not put back, etc.... Most morons at any oil change place know how to work under the LC. See if you can find self reported on toyota site using the vin #.

I service my new Lexus every 5k on the dot for almost 2 years and I pulled up the carfax and it still hasn't pulled all of the information. If I were buying it used I'd pass on it. I wouldn't be too worried with a 2016. Just get all the services done when you buy it if you really like a particular one.

36k is a lot of miles for a '16. It would mean the full warranty has expired unless it's being sold as a CPO. I wonder if Autocheck would have additional maintenance info? If you end up not being able to verify at least oil changes, you may want to keep looking.

I was a BMW tech that worked at a small independent shop. We bought a new BMW as a company show/track car and it was meticulously maintained but would have had zero service records. I own it now:)

Rare...but just maybe it was owned by someone at an independent shop.

I was able to get some more info. It shows the truck was a former rental car. I guess it was some sort of executive rental and more than likely maintained by the rental agency. I think I'm going to pass since I know how most people treat rentals.

Where did you get the information?

Good choice. I don't even like dealer demo's forget about rental cars haha
