Same date because LEXUS LX is being announced for the Japanese market for the first time.
I would not be surprised if the US press release was before....they are unveiling the facelift Lexus ES soon this month at the Shanghai motor show...they just got done with the RX...i would think the next announcement will be the LX after the update ES.

One thing I miss from my 100 was the rear window side vents. Not sure why they dropped them on the 200? I absolutely love the rear window down on our 4Runner but prefer the split hatch in the LC just needs the side vents.

side vents were super cool in the 100, perfect for the dog riding in the back!

Also the rear end styling of the 100 series....LOVE IT. People around here actually disliked the giant rear tail lights when the 100s first came out as they were a huge departure from the old school LC lights everyone got used to...

Below is the design process of the 100 series LC. Finalized in '94. Some of these date back to the early 90s when the 80 was only a couple of years old....
The Grand Cruiser in this pic that signifies the final design was a concept shown at the 1997 Tokyo Motor show.

2016 LX update is supposed to be similar to how the 2013 LS update was.

Not an all new generation but a major facelift with new interior and host of technology upgrades, full color HUD and Lexus Safety System +

This makes me wonder if the 300 is even due before MY 2019/2020 because if this facelift will be as major as the 2013 LS facelift was then i really find it unlikely they will keep it only for 2 model years, seems like too much work for only a short period of time.

As for the all new LS due in a couple of years it is supposed to take a page from 1989 LS400 and be 'World Class' not just best in class - Akio Toyoda personally invested in project ( from Club Lexus ).

It may be just minor to us but many will agree the LX/LC has been lagging in the "LUXURY" stuff I actually like the front end of the LC better then the current LX so switching the LX nose won't be to difficult; change leather maybe etc. so keeping drive train etc keep it easier for toyota

tried to find picture but was having some trouble; I was actually at the dealership a few days ago and they had this LS in the showroom which was pretty snazzy. exterior all white but had a red and black interior; had a special edition but I can not remember the name. So by chance they also had a regular LS there and it was definitely noticeable how different the upgrade was from one car to another even same model. I will try to look for pic on the web for what its called.

If they are announcing a facelift in June 2015 for a 2016 model year truck, I would not expect a 300 series until at least MY 2018. It would make sense that the life of the 200 (2008 to 2017) is similar to the 100 series (1998 to 2007).

If this next update is as major as the latest info indicates then i think it might even go past the usual cycle.
Why?
1 - Major design update
2 - Updated interior
3 - New Tech
4 - Possible upgrades to current 200 platform

It will be the 200 deep down tried and tested for the past 10 years almost but updated.
Anyway not long now....

Other then blind spot monitoring , lane departure and Birdseye cam , what other sort of tech is really missing when compared to the any of the competition ? Those are the only 3 things I sort of wish I had. Don't really care about lane departure but do like birds eye cams and blind side monitoring.

I can think of some powertrain items like 8-10 speed trans and possibly more advanced fuel injection for more efficiency and power .

If your talking about direct injection it come with its own set of problem that I think are a step down not up when you look at cost to maintain and dependablity. JMHO

Don't care about direct injection but a Diesel with an 8 speed tranny would be nice. One can dream.

I think Toyota is adding some kind of advanced headlight system to its lineup for MY 2016 -- it gives the driver maximum lighting without blinding oncoming vehicles or those ahead. I'm assuming it's LED and not laser beams like BMW is starting to do. Not sure what else they're adding tho.

HUD.

I really like the current vehicles but seriously? Maybe you have not sat in any of the "competition" or are what I'm thinking of, NOT, competition? Anyway, what I think is missing in the LC and LX:
1-seating: Even though they are pretty comfortable as-is, the front seats have very little adjust ability when compared to other upper end suvs. For example, the lumbar isn't even moveable up-down! Both my Audi and then BMW have 4 way lumbar, so does Range Rover, etc. Some lux brands have seats where the upper half of the backrest is separately slanted in addition to side bolsters. Some have massage built in for long drives. Most that are ventilated don't just blow cold air, they blow warm air or cold based on your choice. For heating my 2008 bmw will allow anywhere from 100% seat bottom to 100% seat back and any combination in between. It also has little "airline" headrest winglets. That's a 7 yr old car...with 10x better seats.
2-heated windscreen both Benz and Land Rover do it...have for many, many years.
3-HUD, it's about time....
4-I don't know what else but it sure would be nice if you could choose a headliner other than, one choice ;) and leather more than 2 choices!

What else, I don't know, it's all a bunch of gizmos that end up costing a lot to fix down that inevitable road of creature features.

Yes I have set in, driven and in some cases owned some of the competing models. To qualify competing models, at least my own idea of what competing models are, other body on frame full size SUVs, like the Escalade, Denalie, Qx80, navigator, Sequaia, Expedition, Tahoe, wrangler unlimited.

I have driven X5s, Range Rover sport, M-class, g-class, grand cheeroke, durango. All unibody models, to me all cars made to look and function like SUVs as much possible for a car to do. The Range Rover and GC likely the most successful at it, at least on the off road side of things.

The seats are one of the things I like most about the current LX,LC, extramly comfortable to me on long trips.
One of the things I didn't like about the BMW, Range Rover and Benz and others were the hard seats. No matter how many ways I could move the seats, didn't make them any softer.

I agree with you 100% on the lights, always could use any lighting improvement.
