@TigerCatDang I was wondering what became of this thread. Sorry to hear about your dog, I had to let go of one of my favorites a few years ago and no dog since has been able to fill the void, no offense to them...

Hope you don't give up on cruisers.

To be honest I've been slowly working my way out of hell, but i am okay now. Thanks for checking up on me.

"Hope you don't give up on cruisers."

After Tiger passed, i ended up with a lot of free time and a lack of purpose. The cruiser did her little part and helped me climb out of my cave; she reminded me of you guys and my unfinished work.

No, the cruiser is where Tiger and i felt most at home in the entire time we've been on our own; it became Tiger's as well as my favorite home (even if it was the smallest). It was where i am forever grateful i got to spend a lot of uninterrupted time with him. For that reason, she has been promoted from "2nd Dream Car" to a literal Artifact; surpassing even a brand new 4.7 Diesel 70 series in my books. I now plan on keeping her for forever, and i have a plan as to how.

With that said, i am starting a small-scale manufacturing business this year.

First step is creating a digital clone that is an exact 100% replica, and from there i will design and plan everything out in Omniverse/Virtual/Augmented Reality. The age of perfect fitment is just around the corner! I will be using a 3D scanner in combination of photogrammetry software to do this. The derivatives from this full scan project will go into many projects i have planned for mud, as i can do a lot with a 100% accurate model. This will make the process so much easier to mod/save me much time later. Having the right tool really is key here!

I will share my digital clone (free 3d/STL file for mud) after i am done (Waiting on work PC to arrive). From this project you will have an easy way to use my car (3d file/digital clone) for reference/pull exact measurements/view from every angle. I will also be making a limited supply of Remote-Controlled 1/10 Scale copy of my exact car (built on all-metal SCX10 rock crawler platform) specifically for mud.

I will then offer, along with many other services like custom parts (like adjustable cup holder), a service where you an bring your LX/LC to my warehouse to be scanned and receive the "3D Photograph treatment". After i scan your car you now have the option of having all kinds of things made, like a tiny little version to put on your desk! I can even make a 100% scale, in parts, for your to experiment/prototype with; or even replicas of individual pieces.

But first thing is first, she failed inspection for tires and i am not ready to make my own tires yet; dude said wire was showing, and to think i drove her on frozen road the other night. Hopefully, this will be the last set of tires i ever need to buy because i plan on learning/being able to make my own by the time the 50k+ miles are up.

With that said, i only have 1 question, albeit a loaded one.

I almost feel bad for asking it, because i can already see the gray hairs being pulled out. After these last 2 months i am not sure if i have any left to spare, so i once again turn to mud.

What are the best tires out there for the LX?
I plan on keeping 20s as i do not have time to swap now, and aiming for 34 inches.

I want to learn how to make my own tires down the road on demand and as needed (from recycled tires), so i literally just want something high quality to learn from.

Anyways, good to see everyone. I hope life has been kind to you all, and i'll be up all night looking for my dream tires. I will be keeping an open ear and eye out for any advice, and i thank you in advance.

Now that’s a loaded question!
You know i am full of those!

"Toyo at3 35x11.5r20"

Dude... really good to see you but can you stop doing that creepy Jedi Mind trick thing where you say what i was going to say before i say it.

I was sitting there typing out "Okay so if no one has any idea, ill start with Toyo 34 MTs and ask why not/whats better". You were creepily close, close enough that i had to double check that my webcam is covered :oops:

AT is probably the more responsible thing to do. You know how i always find some dumb way to justify my poor decisions?

"Well i was thinking since the LX has such great sound-and-vibration dampening that errr you know errr mud terrains is basically feels like all terrains from the inside".

In my head the math check outs but i now see the flaw in my way of thinking. And man just when i think i've settled on 34s like 10 times, it would be you to send me right back to the drawing board.

Toyo at3 35x11.5r20?
Well, that's a done deal. Thanks boss for saving me a literal entire night/possibly 7 continuous days of pulling my hair out.

Good chat gang, and good to see you.

And people say tires are hard i just dont get it :rolleyes:

Don’t forget you need spacers (popping open can of worms)….

Well dang, spoke too soon yet again. Which set of spacers/link? There is a 4WP near me i assume they will have a set.

Not sure if this will alter the Hivemind's decision, but local sams clubs has Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 on sale for $315 each.

1.25” spacers (edited)
Check on @TeCKis300 build he put on 35x12.5 Toyo at3 not too long ago. I think you can do the 11.5 and not need a bmc, it will be close. People are doing 295/70r18 with no bmc.
I’d try to sell you on an RT but 20” narrower sizing in a decent load rating is tough to find.
I’m happy with my Kenda Klever skinny 35s but they only have in 17”.

Doubt you’ll need a bmc. Assuming the 35 is really a 34.5
Toyo says the 35x11.5r20 is 34.5, and the 295/70r18 is 34.3.
:cool:

I am glad to see you were able to get your orignal profile unlocked as well. Cannot give insight on to tires as I have a 100, but glad to see you back in it. I like the idea of your drive thru scanning service. Once it becomes reality im totally down for a trip, NC isn't too far down 95 for me.

Tires last for a few years, get the ones you want, you have to live with them for a while.
Not too many people love terra grapplers.

On the spacers you want them to have the same little lip on them that the hub has.

Try bora or spidertrax, or a similar generic.
Hub and wheel centric

BORA WHEEL SPACER 1.25" TUNDRA 2007+ Is a sample search term

Also a good option the new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT, which is pretty RT like. Has a 285/65r20 (33.6). Definitely a more sane fitment. 1” spacers for this one.

@D21FJ60 thanks bud, things like that really make me feel at home here!

3 Things for you:
1. I plan on covering all series common for mud (this project is literally almost entirely inspired by mud, after all), and will need 1 to scan so that i have what i need for 100 projects, i am thinking a free scan (3D Photo) if you can volunteer your 100. This is the same for other series, i need 1 copy of each (priority on structurally well-maintained examples) to scan for future use. If i scan your car and have a copy of the file, then i can manufacture things for it much more easily

If you want to volunteer your vehicle for the first scan of each series, please get in touch with me and make plans to get to NC (i am few mins from RDU airport). But first, wait for me to finish with mine and see if you like what i am doing first.

2. I will not require everyone to come into the warehouse for a scan (only for those who want me to do it for them), it will just be the most accurate option for a scan. You will be able to see where the rust is building under by looking at the model, and see every missing bolts/use it for mod measurements/fabricating replacement parts kind of accuracy.

3. I plan on showing you how to take your own scan with equipment you already have/free software (DSLR camera preferred but even a phone can do this). This will allow you to take a 3-Dimensional snapshot of anything you want, i.e. your baby in full flex mode on top of a rock in the Grand Canyons. You can even include the surrounding terrain in your snapshot. Just think "3D Picture", and all i am doing is teaching you guys how to take one and letting you choose the Photo Subject(s). After i am done with mine and done with proof of concept, i will guide you guys through it so you can also have a 100% replica RC toy of your own cruiser, maybe even a 1:1 scale truck bed. You could even scan your home and redesign it, or scan your wife and turn her into a talking bobble-head. I plan on scanning peoples dogs and making them life size statues/various gifts with the files.

You will also have the option of taking the photos for me, then sending me the photos to turn into 3d model (MeshMixer software). I will provide instructions when i get there.

From here, after scan is done, modding/replacing broken parts = EZ PZ (like i said, Perfect Fitment. Even for tires)

The only reason most of you will ever have to physically show up in person, is if you want to personally visit me to check on my well being/to say hello; and i will be happy to see you! Almost everything can be done remotely by you for my business/mud projects. Don't worry, i will make this EASY for you.

I Imagine a virtual Mud Museum somewhere the road/and a real down even further down, and i know how to build it! It will be a tribute to what brought us all together in the first place.

@grinchy

Well, Those Baja Boss are some damn good looking tires. So it seems it has come back to this after all, the drawing board. I'm going to need the force for this one.

So i am thinking i will start with a trip to 4 wheel parts, where i will get touchy feely with every off-road tire they have.

It was honestly easier picking a best friend, because Tiger just did the work for me and came to me. Maybe the right tire will accidentally fall off the rack and just roll to me.

Will update when i leave/share pictures.

the 12.50 width is almost certainly going to require a body mount chop (BMC). That's why I suggested the 11.5/295 width. I think you'll also like lower load ratings, which is why the 35x11.5r20 (124 load) and 285/65r20 (120 load).

Also be careful - Baja Boss has an AT and MT, they are NOT the same tire.

@grinchy 34.7 inches. 35x12.5r20

@TeCKis300

This one? What spacers? 1.25" still?

View attachment 2900076

Everything @grinchy said.

I would still go 1" spacers. 1.25" for real offroad driving will have the tire corners into the fenders. Space is that tight and .25" will make a difference to clearance everywhere including BMC, mudflap area, upper fenders both front and rear. Sure, a 1.25 spacer can work, but will take more effort, and need rolling of the fenders.

Will also need UCA to provide clearance inward at high compression and steering inputs.

Seems simple enough, as there are examples I can follow on mud. I will take it easy on her until I can find a local shop that will do it properly (or get tools/learn to do myself). Maybe one of the local NC shops ran by fellow mudders?

I spent some time doing some soul searching this morning, and realize that it just isn't the mud way, to go with simple, easy & cookie-cutter. No, I come here looking for pioneers and to learn from the best in the open-source/public sector. I realize that if i wanted 33s or 34s or anything but the biggest size possible for my LC/LX, that i could be asking on any other forum.

@TeCKis300
So just take it easy on her until I can afford both a BMC and UCA? But definitely drive-able for normal/lighter use until then?

CAN WE GO... BIGGER?
