2007 LC timing belt replacement with water pump for $662 at the dealer? (1 Viewer)

Guys, I called a local independent Toyota only shop and they wanted $1,050 for timing belt replacement including water pump. This was parts and labor. Today I called the local Toyota dealer just to see what they would charge. They quoted me $779 plus i have a 15% coupon that they confirmed I can use bringing this to $662. This seems to good to be true. Am I missing something? Is the dealer really 40% less than the independent shop?

I recently got a quote from a local independent shop here in NC for ~$700 for that job on a 2000.

I'd jump on the chance to have a dealer do it for $662, but hey...I've had this 2000 LC for a whole week now so I'm sure there are other people with more experience. Just funny timing seeing how I literally just got this quoted. I actually called the dealer here as well for a quote, but never heard back from them.

id do it. Seems like a good deal and to have a shop that reports to carfax is always a plus. Local shop here wants 950 (toyota and lexus only shop). but they replace a lot of stuff for that price. including idler pulleys, tensioner pulley serp belt etc using all OEM parts. (I think they also replace the heater Tees at that price).

That's what I did on my last one - waited for the sale and then they added the 15% high mileage discount. I think it was around $700. I'm due for another timing belt so I'm waiting for the same deal again.

You probably know this but not all TB service quotes cover the same level of service. Before I left the vehicle, I would ask for a detailed written work estimate with a list of part numbers they intend to replace and compare that to other quotes. Some will provide the basic minimum (or less), while others do the extra preventive maintenances which takes more time and expense.

I bot all the parts. Garage charged $450 to replace tb, water pump, cam seals, radiator, thermostat, serpintine belt, fan clutch, fan clutch bracket, idler pulleys, ... and a couple others.

I paid ~$860 for the TB and WP service at the Toyota Dealer yesterday. Philadelphia, PA suburbs area. The dealer did the base TB/WP job listed above since I already took care of some of the other items at home.

In the Boston burbs, I was quoted $1200 to $1500 for timing belt / water pump from 3 different Toyota dealers. That price is a steal.

I got a quote from my local independent Lexus shop (Davenport, they service my wife's LS430 and my LC). They do the minimum and optional service items in a buck99's post above for $1,418.43 (same hourly rate as the local Lexus dealership, but I trust them).

I hope to get a better quote from the dealership. Davenport gives me a free loaner, so it may be worth the extra $$.

$779 is a deal, but I would confirm what all is included.

do the belt tensioner. i didn't and had it fail 6 months after doing the t-belt, water pump, cam seals and all the other goodies. the job to do the tenshioner alone cost about $500 since they have to tear most of the same stuff off thetd be doing for the T-Belt.

The price on the TB change has gone down over the years at Toyota dealers. I think its because they have so many 4.7L engines in vehicles. Lexus has stayed mostly the same with only LX and GX with the 4.7L. I had one Toyota dealer quote $500, but it was without a lot of the other items that ought to be done at the same time - as others have stated. They usually will contact you if they get in the engine and other items appear to need changing. If you have good techs that you trust you can go with less. I have 244K miles on the original water pump, but keep Toyota coolant in it. However, the drive belt tensioner went out about 220K.
