Thinking about getting an LC. Sticker at 65K dealer is offering 59,500. Is that a good deal? Always wanted an LC and it seems like with the upgrades for 06 it might be a good time. Thanks!

I did the Consumer Reports route. Since they pretty much come loaded, I didn't opt for the running boards, receiver hitch and rear wing thing.

From there, I contacted 10 dealers in the tri-state area and chose my best price, which happened to be Bay Ridge Toyota in Brooklyn.

Good luck.

Not sure about '06, or your part of the country, but I know on '05 you could do better than that both here (Atlanta) and in the Oregon/Washington.

I wouldn't pay much more than 2-3% over invoice.

someone told me on the 05's the rear(middle) seats do not fold flat anymore?

Sorry, newbie mistake. I'm located in Houston Texas. Dealer has about 6 LC's in stock. Its hard to know exact invoice as we're under Gulf Coast Toyota, and their funky add on pricing.

The particular LC, has the NAV, Air suspension, running boards, and airbag packages. Gulf Coast added twin headrest DVD system ($2K), XM radio ($500), Protection Package ($400) and the dealer added tint for $500! I know the protection package and tint are a total ripp off. At least this model didn't have the Gulf Coast "value" packages like the other LCs in stock. Those range in price from $2K to $3K! Now that's a rip off! Hate Gulf Coast Toyota.

Toyota would sell more cars if it weren't for Gulf Coast's crappy practices.

Back in '03, a friend of mine managed to get a new '03 w/ dvd for $53K (dvd is about a $3K factory option). I'd guessa $3-4K for the AHC hydraulic suspension and pay nothing for the tint (tell 'em you want it removed...it'll cost them more to remove it then to give it to you for free). I'd shoot for $56-57K unless it has something extra and fancy, like lcd monitors in the headrests, flip down center console or those new 8" JDM sun visor lcd screens, etc. Look at Edmund's for the invoice price and price of options (I didn't check, just took a logic guess at the price). Oh, yeah, you guys in the eastern half of the country have to pay more for shipping, so figure that in, too.

That actually does sound like a decent price given all the add-ons by the dealer. Without those, I just picked up my '06 in CA for a few thousand less than your price. Had to haggle between a few dealers to get there. PM if you want the specifics. Best of luck!

Yep, Gulf States Toyota rules this area like an iron fist.

I should know, being a Toyota-centric wholesaler :)

Who's offering for $59,5? Sounds like a Sterling or Haas price.

Since you're in the biz can you tell us what the "Hold Price" or "Hold Back" percentage is on LCs. I would like to know how much is kicked back to the dealer after the sale...

Is the "Hold Back" different from dealer to dealer based on volume?

Ha. Don't know how it is w/ you guys, but Gulf States Toyota does use volume as well as other carrot/stick methods to determine holdback. So, yes, it's variable, but they're (the dealer) not making a ton of money, I promise you. A used '06 at the auction is worth $53-$55K depending on mileage & options.

Considering the state of affairs in Houston regarding large SUVs, though, I would look for a bargain on an '05 rather than buying an '06 new. Used car inventories are getting crushed by the flood of SUV trade-ins and any used car mgr would love to dump a $50K unit.

holdback does not vary from dealer to dealer based on volume.

the distributors (gulf states and southeast toyota) do have larger holdbacks due to some of their add-on accessories.

Nah, I'm only going for the 06 because of the upgraded engine and suspension. I'll try and hammer him down some more. Thanks for the heads up!

So, it's true that dealers can sell a vehicle at or below invoice. Cal Worthington is a good example. I recently negotiated a brand new '06 Honda 2WD CRV for my sister... I dropped the Holdback card and the Fleet Manager told me it was 1%. They still sold her the '06 for $300 over published invoice (KBB), and that was with twenty (20) 2005 CRV AWDs still on the lot.

Holdback is how dealers still make a fair profit... if holdback is 5% on a LC then the headroom below invoice is around $2.5K. I personally believe it may be slightly more because of Toyota's gross margins on this vehicle.

A few years ago in 2002-03, a Toyota dealer was liquidating. A month earlier I had expressed interest in an LC, but not for MSRP. They called me back and asked if I wanted to buy the same LC for $42K. This was approximately $10K under MSRP. The dealer was sold to AutoNation shortly thereafter.

So if a dealer is desperate enough (like now) they can move a new vehicle at published invoice and still make money. Correct?

Thanks.

I know it's a little more horsepower and thats worth something but you do realize that the LX470 has had the same suspension since 1998 right? You could really save some $$$ looking used. I know you are looking at new vehicles but an 04/05 LX would be new basically and have more options as standard (the optional LC suspension has always been standard on the LX), and higher end options available as far entertainment packages (Mark Levinson and wireless headsets and bluetooth phones blah blah blah) etc... if you're into that kinda stuff.

Just wanted to give another heads up on that front. Good luck with your search, your gonna end up with a really nice vehicle either way!

Ah but some option packages and package discounts are only available to volume sellers, etc. Get it?

Yea, I thought about getting an LX, but just like the LC look better, just me, nothing against the LX. One thing I'd love is the HID lights for the LC.

Like I said, I hate Gulf State Toyota.
