currently in a 2005 sequoia limited 2wd, all the bells/whistles, 73k miles. have had 2 100s in the past and wanting to get back into one now, but with little cash outlay. can consider a 2003-2005 land cruiser, but will have more miles than i have now, probably in the 90-100k range. i am the second owner of the sequoia and bought when it had 43k on it.

opinions on if you would make this trade? i'd be losing a year probably, as i would rather go with the 04 since i would get bluetooth and backup camera, would also lose roughly 20-30k miles, but would gain AWD, which i need. that, and i've always thought that my sequoia is nice, but its not a LC.

thanks for your feedback,

jeff

I guess it would depend on what you need. If you need all that space in the Sequoia and you don't really need 4WD, just stick with what you've got.

Me, personally, I looked at Sequoia's before buying my LC and there was no comparison. Space was plentiful for me and my family. Off-road capabilities and quality was much better with the LC. I could have gotten a newer Sequoia with way less mileage, but I don't regret my decision at all. Mine has 146k miles and still drives like the day I picked it up. Eventually, I'd like to pick up an 05-07 for the better transmission (5-sp) and i-Force engine. But I don't think mine is going to go anywhere anytime soon.

We too took a serious look at sequoias both first and second gen when looking for vehicles. I liked the extra cargo space in the seq but the overall build quality was lacking. Everything seemed Americanized (understandable given the target buyer) and cheap. The buttons, levers handles, leather and carpet are not the same quality. Also with the larger rear departure angle I dint see it doing as well off road. Ther is also a much smaller aftermarket segment.

With kids, if I didn't plan on wheeling I would have chosen a 2008+ seq any day, but since I am off road frequently with the kids I went with the LC and have never looked back. Stand alone it is lacking in cargo space, but add a roof top box and you are ready to do that 2 week trip with 3 kids and a dog with out feeling cramped.

The Sequoia is Toyota's SUV equivalent of the Camry... designed and built for the main-stream US consumer to compete with Tahoe's and Expeditions. If you must-have the space and/or towing capacity, then the Sequoia can make a lot of sense, but for long-term durability and off-road prowess, the LC is the clear winner.

This exactly why we got the LC. The 08+ Sequioa is nice, just rode in an 09 Platinim for a whole day during a fishing trip ( very minor offroading). We are even considering replacing our minivan with one. It's big and fancy, it just isn't a Land Cuiser. It didn't feel like a vehicle I "wanted" to take offroad, it felt like a really fancy minivan. Everytime I get in my truck, I want to go over or through something. You can't market or put a pricetag on that, the vehicle either has it or it doesn't. The Land Cruiser has it. IMHO.

So, let me see, made in Japan (LC) vs. made in Indiana (Seq), tough decision there...

<cheeky grin>

Isn't that the truth!

I've seen a couple 100's with 400k miles on the clock already.
Miles should be minor priority in your quest.
Maintenance history and overall condition are the real keys.

I haven't driven a sequoia, but you can't deny the best little Japanese boys engineered the 100's.

I have 2 kids and 2 dogs. We are not cramped on trips at all.

We have an 04 Sequoia 4wd currently with 130k on the odometer, I took over driving it earlier this year when we needed something with better gas mileage for my wife's car. I have gone back and forth many times on whether I wanted another 80 series or possibly a hundy. Knowing the maint. history on the Sequoia and the 3rd row being easier to user has led me to keep the Sequoia. Aftermarket support for the 100 is better if you want easier mods. I have now lifted the Sequoia around 2 1/2" and have stepped up the tire size as well and have a large list of mods to hopefully happen over the mext 6 months.

There is only one issue with a Sequoia, "it's not a Land Cruiser"! Otherwise it's a fine vechicle.

I like the Sequoia. There are 2 across the street from me for sale. They look big and safe with the standard Toyota quality i'm sure. I would like to pick one up someday. It's not a landcruiser but it's sure beats the crap out of any ford, dodge or chevy. I live in Wisconsin and nobody really knows what a landcruiser is here. I wouldn't trade it for anything, I waited for 15 years to finally get one and let me tell ya, Good things happen to those who wait. :)

Any pics??

I went from an 07 FJ Cruiser to a 2000 100 series and could not be happier.
