Alright, was finally able to get quotes from the Lexus & Toyota dealerships about getting my timing belt / water pump and all other parts recommended, serviced. Lexus is a big no go! They quoted me $3,500 for all the parts and an additional $9,980 for the labor. When I went to Toyota for a quote. The master mechanic inspected my LX for free and quoted me, parts & labor wise:
- $1,328.00 to replace the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, & the tensioner assembly. He advised me not to replace anything else until he inspected it.
- $138.00 for a valve cover reseal/degrease
- $532.00 to adjust & repack both front wheel bearings
- $133.00 for a powering steering flush and fill & to repair the leak in the hoses
- $476.00 to replace all the Heater T's & coolant hoses.

As far as a quote from my Indy mechanic, I am still waiting to hear back. He is willing to do the job, but he has kind of expressed that he is concerned about me buying and bringing him the parts. Only for the mere fact, that if they send the wrong parts, then my LX is going to have to sit until the right parts arrive and he will charge me.

Predatory tactic I've heard of a few times at Lexus and Toyota. Huge bill leads to them being able to encourage a trade in. They give you a "GREAT" deal on a new vehicle, and then do minimal repairs and sell your old car as is used. They make out like bandits on both vehicles.

It's a shame really...… Almost 10k in labor for that job.... Simply put, they didn't care to spend the time doing the job.

The OP should have asked for the estimated time involved to do the job, divided it by the labor cost and asked why they were charging him $1000 per hour.

I actually told the service advisor their was no way I was paying that price for parts and labor. I then showed him the print out from "Lexuspartsnow" & "Toyotapartsdeal" for the exact same parts they quoted me for, but for $2,000 cheaper... he didn't say anything. I then told him that I have watched videos on how to service the timing belt and water pump, and almost all of the parts I want replaced, are removed in the process. So how do you explain the price going from $1,600 to $9,980? He told me the computer would not credit the service time when he entered it in. It would only allow him to bill it separately for each job, and that after they got in there and found out it wasn't going to cost extra as far as time goes, then I wouldn't be charged. I told him "That's a negative ghost rider." and thanked him for his time.

That is BS!!! It is best to look for independent LC specialist store, cost a fraction of what they charge and better job most of the time.

At this point I would have been telling him that is a bold faced lie and asked to talk to the manager over the dealership, possibly even report to Toyota Corporate. This is absolutely ridiculous for pricing and IF he was telling the truth and his system would only let him charge "per job" then that is a caveat that he should have mentioned up-front to let you know that would not be final price. Most likely, he just didn't want to do the service or was looking to push you into another vehicle and "give you a deal" on your Trade-In.

If any of you L.C. owners in the Indianapolis area know of a L.C. shop, PM please
