My sister is looking for a truck. Prices seem to be all over the place. She found one that she likes. Here is the lowdown. What you guys think?

2001
Standard Cab
4wd
Manual Trans
Original owner
80K miles
No rust.
All records.
Has a camper shell (she doesn't care about that).

So basically a bare bones Tacoma, but with 4wd.

Asking $9500.

Isn't that a lot for a 14 year old truck? I see new Tacomas on the lot, access cab (2015 model) not 4wd, asking 19K.

Thoughts?

It is a lot but these trucks in 4WD are hard to find. Pre-runners posers everywhere. Extremely reliable and capable offroad. Just getting broken in at 80K!

Right, I realize that the mileage is very low.

What is the diff between a Prerunner, and this 4wd model? It has the bilsteins (just replaced) and looks much higher than regular Tacoma.

Any idea how much the camper might be worth, if resold?

Lots of 4 door 02+ seems to be about 10k, so wondering if the base model 4wd standard cab is worth that much?

I would imagine standard cab resale to be low, since no one wants them?

This also doesn't have a front bench, but bucket seats

These truck hold their value. That's actually a decent price. I would be interested in the shell depending on what it is and color, etc.

I am not sure what hte brand is. It is white in color.

Truck has been garaged and waxed/washed always. Wasn't used as a typical 4wd truck.

I have tons of pics, but unable to upload for some reason.

A Pre-Runner is basically a mildly lifted 2Wd, Not 4WD. What engine does it have? Sounds like a nice, well taken care of truck.

I would put it at the top end but not completely unreasonable. Being a single cab, 4x4, manual, does it have manual locking hubs? how about ABS? I would have her make sure it has the other options that she wants. I could be a very very basic truck.

10K seems to buy the double cab of that generation at higher miles.

Talked to owner , the camper is a "LEER" Brand.

I am not sure about ABS/Manual HUbs, but I will ask today.

Is that a 2000 model? I first saw the cvs and they stopped manual hubs in 2000 and the grill is the 98-00 model front end

Manual hub cvs are blue add cvs are green from toyota
I don't know if the bilstein shocks were stock on reg cabs I thought just trds which weren't a package for reg cabs

Looks to be very good shape

You may be right. My sis might have mistyped 01 in the email and meant 00.

I don't know much about Tacomas, as I am a cruiser guy. THus relying on you guys

That is a high price but they are getting harder to find and this one looks to be in good shape. The frame might need a coat of paint to protect it going down the road.

If your sister doesn't need 4wd the prerunners are the same trucks as the 4x4s just missing the transfer case and front differentials and cvs. Same suspension and everything else. Prerunners can be found for alittle less than 4x4s

What would you consider a good offer?

She actually needs the 4wd. The truck will be used in a very dirt/wet area, without any concrete roads.

So the higher ground clearance is also a must.

Those are manual hubs by the way.

Thank you.

Just figuring out, if she sells the shell she can recoup some money, so what the best offer she should make on it.

I would have to fly ($200 ticket) and drive it back.
