Does anyone have a recommendation for upgrading 1ZH 5th gear? The only thing I found was the terrain tamer but not certain which one is better to lower the rev when in the 5th speed and mostly where to order?

Made some progress on the transmission the best way apparently is to swap the R transmission to the H151 one!

You currently have the R151f transmission, and are wanting to swap to a higher overdrive in 5th? The H151 has a 5th gear ratio of 0.881:1, the R151f is 0.838:1, so the R151f will actually produce slightly lower revs on the highway than the H151f. Steeper overdrives are available for the R-series transmissions, too. There is a Jeep AX15 5th gear that gives something like 0.73:1, or the R452 5th gear, which is what I have, gives 0.69:1. I don't know if the AX15 gear will swap directly in since there were two different 5th gear designs. The R452 gear set will be a direct swap into a 1996+ R-series transmission.

This is where I got the idea. H150 vs R151 Gearboxes

You currently have the R151f transmission, and are wanting to swap to a higher overdrive in 5th? YES but it's been said the H150 or H151 is a stronger build and runs lower on the highway also ratio can be upgraded too.

The H-series transmissions are definitely much stronger transmissions than the R-series. In stock form you will see very little difference in 5th gear cruising rpm between the two, but there are gear upgrades available for both transmissions. The newer H152f from the 2017+ VDJ79 has a higher 2nd and 5th gear ratio, and with the appropriate bell housing and input shaft should work behind a 1HZ.

That's my next project when I rebuild my engine! I would definitely like to fit something like this H152f from the 2017+ VDJ79 has a higher 2nd and 5th gear ratio, That the RPM is not killing in 5th :p

Here are a few pictures of my work this week and a short video too! Weekly update troops Lovers! Removing the diff

The Main Tank is out she was hard to pull. Would someone have the wiring harness diagram by any chance. The connector on the tank was redneck wired with an extra wire lol out of the 3 pin connector

Already,

I decided to keep the 90L main tank and restore it with a new sending unit, subfilter, and a general clean-up with muriatic acid...

Got my 6 KMC 16" inch and tires to fit the rugged brake 6 pistons on the way

Looking for the workshop repair manual for HZJ78 if anyone has a link to the PDF

Thanks Legends
