Years ago I thought I heard an alternator whine at like 120,000 miles. This was my first Toyota or any non American car, so little did I know. I ordered a reman Denso unit to stick in the back of the rig since we were going on a trip and I wanted a spare. While, the whine was just an idler pulley and the alternator never failed. I recently fixed up our 2000 LX470 to give to my son and since the mechanic was doing the timing belt and I had a spare new alternator, I had him install the reman unit.
This left me with an alternator in perfectly good working order. I ordered a rebuild kit (bushes, bearings and voltage regulator) to keep that as a spare. Well, my son just got Cummins pickup so spares for the LX aren't really needed.
$100. Local pickup would be best as it will probably cost $50 to ship this due to weight.
