Seeing as how the LC200 and Sequoia both have the new 5.7 and the interior controls look similar, do they both have the same 4wd driveline? Besides the CRAWL feature. What are the differences? I like the room the Sequoia has, but like the uplevel interior looks and exterior of the 200 a little better.

One is made here. The other is made there.

The Sequoia does not have the KDSS suspension. My good friends has the new 08 Sequoia and it drives very nice...on the road.

I took it off road for a little test....it feels really big and lumpy off-road. Could be that I am biased...which I am!

I can tell you that the Sequoia was NEVER made to go off road.....the only thing I like about it is that it has 20's VS my 18's :)

For REAL tech specs....you will want to go to Toyota's site and look at the actual numbers.

my '04 Sequoia isn't terrible off road. I'm pretty sure it had Center Diff Lock with its 4wd.

The Sequoia is made by Toyota for families who go on vacation. Its a perfect vehicle for camping trips, long vacation drives and towing big boats behind it.

The Land Cruiser CAN do what the sequoia can do, but it also has the unique off road ability. The vehicles are becoming more similiar, however, the Sequoia does have more space, its just not the best for off road. (Basically, you're taking a huge tundra off road, big trucks never work)

It really just comes down to preference, whether you want to spend that extra dough for the pedigree of the Cruiser or spend less and do only a little less with more space with a Sequoia.

I know its tough, my family went through this back in '04. My dad needed a new car since his (now my) cruiser was getting old. He really wanted another cruiser, but it was just too expensive and he didn't see what was wrong with just getting the Sequoia. So we got the sequoia, its been nice ever since. Drove to OBX many times.

I would imagine the Sequoia would satisfy the majority of the people here on MUD for their actual off-road needs. There are quite a few shared parts between the two. Especially with the '08 models. While the Sequoia doesn't have the cache' the LC does, the cash saved by choosing the Sequoia might just say more about your economic wisdom than a trendy name plate does !! :hhmm:

Kinda like the ol' Timex vs Rolex debate...:bang:

If you like the size (122 inch wheelbase vs 112) and the rear door vs a split tailgate, I would say go for it. Toyota is offering some incredible deals right now and you get many modern features for alot less money. I prefer the shorter wheelbase and a tailgate, however that is just personal preference.

**I do not plan to switch to a 200 unless they bring in a turbo diesel...otherwise I will driving my hundy for sometime. I am at 143k miles now.

True, the Sequoia is VERY large. Where I live I see tons and tons of full sized pickups, Suburbans, etc., usually "hauling" only the driver around so, for some people, the size issue isn't a problem. I know for a fact that at first, going from a smaller to a larger vehicle, you notice the size at first but get adapted to the larger one in no time at all. I really like the size of the LC but I have no doubt that I would have no issues going to a new Sequoia. That's not to say that the next person wouldn't, though..Everyone is different and has his/her own preferences. The size of the LC is a good split between midsized and jumbo.

Personally, I think the Sequoia deserves a serious look if you are shopping for a new LC. The gap has definitely closed a lot between it and the LC with the introduction of the '08 Sequoia. That's just my $.02 !!

The gap has closed on many new offerings from many manufacturers. I believe they share many common material suppliers. I like the medium large LC. I have tried way to many vehciles in my 22 years of driving and the LC is just right for me. Our GX feels cramped (mostly narrow) even thou it is not much smaller than the hundy.

The big tree of SUVs should be considered especially with the rebates, new engine and new tranny and it is a YOTA!

This information is helpful. My wife was looking at the Sequoia but ended up with the Acura MDX just this past Thur. Got rid of her XC90 (POS). I was really not in the market but the Sequoia was nice. The dealer let us keep the Sequoia for the night. After looking at the 200 and Sequoia, the 4wd controls seem similar. So except for the size and crawl feature it seams as though both would be similar in offroad ability. I bet I just pissed off alot of cruiser heads! But seriuosly, it seems as though both are very close now except for the downsize and luxury of the LC. I just need to make sure the Sequoia has a proper 4wd system to get in and out of our camp site and muddy boat ramp. I guess good tires and chains in winter will help.

Feel the same way about my wife's GX. Also, has ridiculously short seats and absolutely no storage space. Not sure what they were thinking. LC is much more stable on road - maybe not as cushy as the GX, but holds its on. '

I drove the new Sequoia in Montana on vacation for 1,400 miles and was fairly impressed. All kinds of storage and a very comfortable on road rig. It got close to 19-20 the entire trip in 2wd. Tried it out on a few rutted out roads and the 4wd performed fine. Just a big vehicle though, got to watch it on narrow roads.

I want to clear up any confusion as far as my personal feelings about the thread topic. I in no way feel that the Sequoia is a "replacement", as far as the 200 LC is concerned. I only think it might be a decent alternative to a LC . For the price, and what it offers, the Seq is a pretty good value. The '08 LC, despite its flaws and somewhat controversial styling is still right at the top, as far as lux suv's are concerned. :D

Nicely put!

I just need to make sure the Sequoia has a proper 4wd system to get in and out of our camp site and muddy boat ramp. .

For that purpose the Sequoia will be more than enough.

I also feel as though the Sequoia is not a replacement for the 200. The 200 is much nicer. It is just out of my price range. I like the room of the Sequoia - which is a down side off road. I wasn't sure that with both being new models and the 4x4 controls looking the same that they might have the same driveline. After a little research on my own I did find out that the 200 does have a different driveline and suspension. Maybe I wait a few months for fuel to rise more and see what kind of deals the dealers give on the 200's.

The drivelines and front suspension share plenty of parts and design. The main differences between the two are a full time case on the 200 along with completely different rear end and suspension. The V8, 6 speed, front suspension, steering etc are the HD Land cruiser items on both machines.

Nobody ticked off here, however your conclusion is far from what's true about the two. There are many differences that set the LC far above the Sequoia other than the one added "chip" that adds Crawl Control.

Toyota stated from the get-go that the Seq was not made for real off-road settings. They gave up the rear live axle and went with IRS to increase interior space and improve on-road ride quality. They recommend it for light forest-road type situations.

Being that you ended up with an MDX...the Seq would have been the far better Toyota choice for you. An MDX or Seq will be the better vehicle for 90+ of US buyers. For the other 10% who want another level up in luxury AND/OR durability, added off-road capability (including easy suspension changes) and the like....the LC is the easy choice.

My wife ended up with the MDX. Perfect car for her. The Sequoia would have been too big for her for everyday use. It is definately more luxurious than the Sequoia. But is most definately an on-road car. I was thinking about the Sequoia, have liked the older stlye LC's for a while, and just wanted some more info. Which most people have added some good info. Thanks to all.
