So, I have purchased two ARB compressors. I have the smaller one and the larger one. The idea is to install both, using the smaller one just to engage my locker and the larger one for putting air in my tires. What are the thoughts on this? Am I going overboard with air, or is it an amazing idea? Either way, where would be the best place to install each one in a FZJ80?

kind of overkill IMO. I have the larger one running both lockers in my PU and I use it to air up as well. Don't really see the point of adding the smaller one.

Can't help you as to where to put. I've got a 100.

Well, I originally bought the smaller one hoping that it would do the job of both but was told that it would over heat. I then bought the larger one with the intentions of sending the smaller one back. I never did, so now I have two. If nothing else, I'll throw one of them in my Tundra.

Sell the small one, just use the big one. Get a reserve tank, a gallon or two, should help in airing up. The lockers really take very little. I think I can cycle the rear several times before the compressor even kicks back on, and you shouldn't need to be cycling it on and off on the trail.

For mounting, I'm looking at the same thing. It will depend on what you have added to the engine compartment. One place is in the second batter location (washer bottle), Saw a nice one between the washer bottle and air cleaner. If engine compartment space is limited, several have used the bottle jack mount in the left rear qrt panel. The only thing with this location is using large enough wire to limit voltage drop.

Other than being overkill, is there any other down falls to running both compressors?:meh:

You have to install them...

I'd sell the small one and put the $ towards your air locker fund.

You've always got the Green Slime if you absolutely need a backup compressor.

I will be the first to admit that I'm not much of an electrical person, and I'll probably have my hands full installing just the one. What I might do is just install a reserve tank somewhere and use it to air up. Mike, as I was saying before, my new friend Charles Lane, is quite expensive but I have been loaned some money to pay him. I believe there will be enough left over to do my air locker install. So, it may happen sooner, rather than later.

No downfalls with two, other than twice the wiring work :). If you want help with the wiring let me know. Two install scenarios I guess. Separate, Big on to an air tank, little one to the lockers. Or, both tied in together, again, if airing up tires I would recommend an air tank added into the mix. Viair 1.0 Gallon Tank-RH3, This tank would fit great above/infront of the spare tire. you could have one compressor with a slightly higher "ON" pressure too.

The first scenario, where the compressors are seperate, is what I originally had in mind. Would the bigger compressor be enough to air tires up on its own, or is the tank a must? :meh:

If things go the way I want them to Michael, you may be the proud new owner of the Slime. That is, of course, if you'll have her. :princess:

The big compressor is plenty to air up tires. I use it on mine, to go from 15/20 psi to 40. It's not fast, but faster than one of those cheapy HF type bag compressors. The air tank isn't a must. I'm just going to try it and see if it helps. I'll let you know :)

It just seems like one of those air tanks would only hold enough to air one tire. Then the compressor would have to work over time to fill the tank again. But do let me know how it works. The good thing about an air tank is that you can steal other peoples air out of their tires so long as there is more pressure in their tire than is in your air tank. :hillbilly:

IMHO i'd sell them both and buy an extreme air magnum compressor can handle duty as both and is a ton better than the ARB compressor.

Products : Extreme Outback

I think what I'm going to do is go ahead and install one and depending on how easy I feel it is, I might go ahead and install the other. Seeing as how I don't have an air locker yet, I'm going to install the larger one in the rear on the 80 for airing tires.

You can come by the house and tackle that compressor.

I might take you up on that. Was going to see if Mike wanted to help but his lady is getting ready to move so it's hard to get him to do anything right now. And, I know squat about electrical.

Easy stuff. Ground, Power, Fuse. Not that difficult to me! Let me know so we can do it in my garage and not in the cold raining/snowing weather. I thought this was spring! Damn i forgot i live in Washington and not Hawaii

Sounds good. Let me figure out when a good time would be. I'm busy most of this weekend but I'm getting eye surgery Monday so I will have the week off. If I'm feeling up to it, and you have free time, maybe we can knock it out one day next week?

Sound good.
