Hello all
I recently took my 93 fzj80 in for a valve cover gasket replacement and afterward the vehicle was surging at stoplights. The shop took it back and said they think something may be blocking the exhaust valve in the 1st cylinder, that is is leaking about 85% of the air in the cylinder and that they can take it apart and send it to a machine shop for $1,500. That was about 500 miles ago. The CEL is still on and it still surges/shudders at certain RPMs.
They don't believe they caused the problem.
My question is with the engine at 225k miles should I pay $1500 to have this fixed or should I just pay the going rate for a rebuilt engine (and from who?) or what would you do? I mean, if they are taking the engine out should I do more than just get this one cylinder fixed?
I am in Western Colorado, I've had the birfields replaced and have an OME shock/strut kit so it rides pretty nice usually.
TY
