the head issues are quite common on the 1kzt, but the 1kzt-e is better due to the electrics.

These are the most common engines in toyotas over here, and we are well aware of the issues.

The R151F gearbox is also the stock gearbox on the rare 22RTE gen1 runners in the states. They are very good, and have an extra low ratio in 1st gear.

I would also prefer the 14bt, but I dont like the extra weight. I still have the 2LT on my truck, somewhat modified though. A few years ago I bought a 1KZT to do a swap, but I lost interest and sold it instead. The new owner had to not only swap the head, but also the block...

which it's this " rare " low gear .. something like 7.20:1 or so . ? ( little ironic ) coz all under 4.92:1 it's common and normal to me ..

Yup at cruiser days 2007 a guy had a 4 runner with a 3B , the front of the frame looks flimsey, held up well, If I can remeber he ha 38" tires with the 8" front . He drove it like he was running from the FUZZ!

I have owned several KZJ 70 and 90 series in Belgium,some of them with more then 300.000KM on them and if you replace the head with an aftermarket one,you never have to worry about it again!Mostly the head cracks somewhere between 60.000 and a 150.000 km ,the price of a new good quality head is around 750$.Right now i have a HILUX with the new D4D4 3.0 diesel and this is just amazing to drive.If you want a 1KZ engine then find one now in the UK, there are realy some bargains now,a lot of surfs and 90 series are being sold for silly prices(2000 to 5000$ for the complete car!!!!!!!)I have bought myself a 3B last year in Belgium and i am putting it in my BJ right now.But i am considering to buy me a surf in the UK for some future plans(hey i even spotted a nice HDJ 80 VX for less then 3500$ with the 1HDT in it)

Where do you get replacement heads for 1KZ-T? Or the 2.4LT? I have the latter engine in a 1988 LJ70 and would like to replace the entire engine before the head cracks. Grateful for any information you may be able to give. Someone said that replacement heads sold in Australia are actually cast in Spain. I am in the USA--the LJ70 was imported from Italy. Thanks a lot.
