Hey guys I've got my hands on a 1997 1hz motor, will be rebuilding both the engines but I've done the research, the supposed turbo engine rebuild kit for the 1hz is half quality Chinese cheap crap. The bottom end isn't my issue (done the research an upgraded compression ring, combustion bowl insert and upgraded big end bearings), I need to find more out about the cylinder head, the gasket needs to be slightly thicker to allow for the extra compression, and the valve lash set so the valves are open for a little bit longer. I was wondering if there were any aftermarket valves, valve springs etc for a 1hz cylinder head.

Thanks

After watching Kevin Rowlands rebuild on his 1 HZ, I also went with the rebuild kit from Engines Australia. They also have all the valve parts available. Engine still being rebuilt but parts look good and were reasonable in price.

Cheers,

My understanding is that SMS diesel is the only company offering genuine 1HDT conrods and fasteners with their 1HZ turbo upgrade kits.

The Chinese fasteners HAVE failed on some of the upgrade kits.

I supplied a turbocharger kit recently for a local fellow with (i posted the dyno result) 1HZ and he went cheap and willing to take the risk (he had built the engine already without knowing so I almost understand - he's 18yrs so that completed the picture). Going ok so far, however it's only $200-300 more for genuine rods and fasteners.

The pistons are Chinese, not heard of complaints.

When you talk of combustion bowl, are you converting to direct injection (changing inj, head, inj lines and inj pump)?

Cheers, Graeme

The difference between earlier model 1hz (1990-1998) and the later model (1999-2005) is that the combustion bowl and injector pump have been tweaked slightly to improve the engine. The combustion bowl of the older 1hz can be upgraded with an insert (unsure what it is made of) to provide a better burn in the pot

contact engines australia and see what their turbo 1hz kit entails.

From what I know its ceramic coated piston heads with larger gudgeon pins. Might be worth asking about the precups.

any updates on this?
I have been reading up lately on td42 performance since there isn't much info out there on guys doing serious performance mods to 1hzs
1hz's have bigger rods and gudgeon pins in comparison to td42s.
I am trying to figure out the limits of a stock 1hz.
There are guys running 30psi both on stock td42s and 1hz (with turbos of course) without failures. Though the weak point on the nissans are the cranks.
Anyone ever blow head gaskets at high boost? 1hd-t's seem to take 30lbs without too much issues.
Does the 1hd-t stretch head bolts ever?
