Just had a 1HZ installed in a BJ-43, I am really happy with the power but not happy enough. It has the AXT turbo kit everyhting else is stock. What would you all recommend to coax more umph especially at lower rpm's? Is there a turbo with a wastegate that can be installed, higher flow injectors...? I will say I want to stay away from propane and NOX kits. Here are two photos of the engine in palce. Thanks folks:cheers:

Have you the turbo finetuned to the engine? If not done yet I would recommend to have a specialised technician finetune it with the help of a testbench that reads torque and power. Adjusting the fuel and timing can make quite a difference.
 
Not happy with the power? How many pounds boost are you running and what are your egt's? you can add a boost controller so you can run more boost. There are guys in Aus running 24 pounds in competitions - but most run 8-9lbs without an intercooler and 12-15 with an intercooler. I run 12 pounds on my 1HZ with intercooler and it flies if I crank the fuel up on it - reletaivly speaking though. You won't get V8 400 HP numbers out a 1HZ - you know that right:)

Nice engine in a nice Cruiser ..

I will start with EGT / OIL Press / Boost Gauges .. and then take a desision of how far you wanna go .. the heaven it's the limit ..
 
How many different turbo kits are out there. What is needed to turbo the HZ 1 what kind of HP/TORQUE are we talking about with these kits?:beer:

lots of .. AXT / Safari / Turbo Glide / etc ..

Needed .. turbo + exhaust manifold / piping / oil lines etc ..

search .. plenty info here ..
 
There is always going to be some turbo lag. If you want neck snapping takes offs ,you need a supercharger.:D
 
if you add an intercooler, you can add some more fuel and get some more go
