Hello everyone, I have been researching quite a bit concerning swapping a 1HZ into a 1992 FJ80 (US Spec.). Lots of information spread throughout many threads, so I hoped to narrow some of it down into one thread for confirmation/correction.

First of all:

1-1HZ-H150 is the most likely combo as far as I can tell.
So... a) Can the H150 use the existing crossmember? (I have read that the H55 will NOT fit the FJ80 from interference issues.)
b) Engine mounts for the 3FE do NOT work with the 1HZ, and new ones would need to be made right?

2-Many of the 1HZ's for sale are fitted to H55's. Would these also bolt up to an H150 Transmission, or would you need to swap out input shafts and clutch discs? (If so, what parts would need to change... bellhousing maybe...etc.)

3-It seems to me that this "could" be a fairly straight forward swap, but perhaps there are words of wisdom to be had. Basically as much pertinent info as you can throw out there. Thanks for the info guys.

Michael.

Bell housing, input shaft are necessary for H55. Buy an input shaft and a new H55 trani. Source your engine with a bell housing. Then you need to get some locking hubs. The rest is labor and a few gotcha's along the way. Get ahold of G&S Cruisers, Lynchmob, VT Cruiser, and the AU members. I think it is all pretty straight forward once you source all the parts you need. Bob

Actually I was hoping to go with the H150. I know alot of people prefer the H55 over the H150, but I would rather go with a newer, still in production tranny. As far as transfer cases, I would like to stick with my HF2A. I was looking to hopefully use the transmission mounts already existing for the H150. Possible...?

the BF1A t-case that come behind the H55F are not compatible with the H150 tranny ..

The auto tranny A440/ A442 are longer so you need to re arange your DS and move your crossmember forward a couple of inches .. ( there is a holes already in the frame but not the nuts in my case ).

The H150 use a 21 splines input .. 275mm clutch and pressure plate.

Sweet. Thank you sir. Do you know if the H150's attach to the HF2A I have in my '92? I imagine they used that t-case in the HZJ80 with that tranny. Or at least the part time version... HF1A...? Maybe.

I have a used H151 (coarse spline - full time tcase) that would need a bellhousing to fit a 1HZ. Then you have options for the clutch. Either use the stock 1HZ flywheel and get a coarse spline disc in the correct size (1HZ is fine 21) OR get a 1HD flywheel and clutch components which are a direct fit for the engine and trans.

All HF t-case family are direct bolt on behind the H150 and H151 trannys .. the only issue are the splines on the tranny input shaft ..

I have the Isuzu part number that let you use the 300mm clutch with the 300 pressure plate and flywheel from a 1HD-T configuration ..

Cool deal. I'm liking the answers here guys, thanks. I always have trouble keeping all the things I read straight. And as far as you know, my stock crossmember would need to be moved forward to preexisting holes?

Oh yeah... that too of course. :) Do you know if all 80's have the holes that are predrilled for the H150?

Nop .. I don't know .. mine have the holes but not the welded nuts inside the frame .. wife frame have both holes ( for auto and manual crossmember ) and nuts for all holes ..

Hmmm.... If you don't mind me asking Tapage, what year and engine/tranny does your rig have, and your wifes?

Tencha have a 2H-T with a H55F and BF1A t-case .. ( 87 HJ60 )

Marilu have a 1HD-T with a H150 ( 300mm clutch ) and HF1A t-case ( 96 HDJ80 )

Bellota have a 1FZ-FE with a H151 ( 300mm cltuch ) and HF1A full manual t-case ( 99 FZJ80 )

Sweet. :) Did Bellota come from Venezuela? And I'll have to crawl under mine and look to see if there are extra mounting holes. :) I suppose they'll be relatively easy to find if they are down there?

Yes from Venezuela SF rear with drums .. soon will be FF but still with drums ..

What are you refering to relative easy to find here .. ?

The alternative mounting holes for using the H150. Course... I don't know if they used that tranny in the FJ80's. Who knows. :) I'll keep looking. :)

Actually both trannys are the same length just shorter gearing in the H150 ( reason that I choose use it ) and only the H151 come from factory ( as far I know ) in FZJ80

Well I meant that the H150 seems to be shorter than my A440 from what I've read. But hopefully my frame will have the alternative bolt holes for the crossmember to relocate to.
