I'm new to the 1HZ/diesel world....
The FSM I have shows 4.3psi at idle as a low number... that seems REALLY low... What are people seeing that have aftermarket gauges?

The information in the FSM is correct, Mark.

Notice it says "or more"... So that would be the low end of the oil pressure. Make sense?

Yes, I understand that that is what they meant.
I'm wondering then what psi would be prudent to use for a low pressure alarm. I've seen threads that use a 5psi sender and I know some digital systems have an adjustable setting.
If sub 5psi is common at idle a 5psi alarm would be a problem.

Hello,

Oil pressure is not a problem with most Toyota engines. Most will give you plenty of warning.

You should worry only if the gauge remains in L at high speed/high rpm.

For peace of mind, have the oil pressure sender replaced and do not look back.

The FSM is your friend. Trust the specifications.

I've added a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 1HZ which runs about 20 psi at idle and 60 psi at 2200 RPM. I've got a low pressure alarm set for 4 psi.
