Hi all, I have a starting issue with me 80.
Used to start instantly but these days it cranks for 5 seconds before starting and has been worse. I have replaced fuel pipes and primer pump and filter etc but still the same. I have also put the fuel pipe supply and return into a small diesel can to bypass the tank and still the same.
Suspect air leak/suck from a pump seal or gasket then ????? No fuel leaks from pump.
Help guys please

Never been done so probably due but funds are tight so want to be 100% first.
Anyone had a seal or gasket on the pump suck air ?

I don't know the inner working of the pump well enough to point out a specific, owner-fixable issue that causes hard starting, but I would start with baselining the engine with things I can do myself itself before focusing on IP.

- check and set valve clearance
- compression check
- check IP timing
- look for boost leaks

Beyond that, I would pay the piper for an IP and injector rebuild.
