When I spun the head bolts out it was interesting to note that the ones between the cylinders, closest to the bores on the exhaust side were covered in gunk. All the others were clean and dry. I'd say the area affected by coolant and combustion gasses flowing about and mixing was fairly large.

Also, the test kit I used to diagnose that I truly had an issue...

Yes, I checked them against the spec listed in the FSM, and all were well within spec so I re-used them.
