1HD-T hard start/lack of performance/low idle. (2 Viewers)

Right. The HDJ-80 for the past couple of months has been starting erratically. It will either fire up with less than one quarter turn of the key, to hearing the starter spin, and sometimes take another try to start. Batteries are deep cycle with a 180AH alternator This morning, it was cold overnight (34), and I got in to start it. No glow light on, starter spun, and caught. Idled rough, then settled down. Began to accelerate gradually, and it was lacking power and the rpms began to drop.

Fuel pump? Water in filter (light did not kick on)? Bad diesel fuel?

Is the glow system working? With diesels its nearly always about the colour of the smoke(and how long it goes on for) for a diagnosis.

Does the idle improve when you pump the primer? If so you probably have an air leak. Common culprits are the fuel filter and/or fuel lines.
