So with the diesel's air filter, I was wondering if there is a better way of sealing the filter to the upper part of the air filter box? Perhaps 20 years have done its job on the rubber/gasket, but I'm not quite sure it seals 100% anymore - there is a bit of dust to be found in the "clean part" of the airbox cover. Maybe I've just kicked it there as I've pulled the filter or perhaps it's because the filter was long due for replacement and was so blocked it instead sucked air through the gasket?
Anyway, is there a best practice to install these filters? I mean should I put grease on the rubber gasket that goes on top/into the filter? Or just mount it dry (that's how it was before)?

To me it looks like the gasket did its job - the dust is on the outside, not on the inside?
In any case the gasket is part number 17841-50010 for all model years and costs <$4. Don't put grease.

Super, thank you!
