Yip gear driven. Easy rebuild, few o rings, bearing and a shaft.
Good write up here:

It's gear driven.
Its common to rebuild them with the Toyota seal kit over here.
Probably whining because it's low on fluid.

If I remove it will I have to re time the motor and where do I get the seal kit?
thanks

No you dont need to retime the motor.
Part numbers:
Gasket kit 04446-60050
Shaft 44312-89101
bearing 90029-36003
Oring 90301-60002 (seals the pump body to the timing housing - Isn't in the kit)

Get them from your favourite toyota parts source. @beno are these live in the Toyota USA system?

Yes.

Well this thread popped up at the perfect time. My pump has just started leaking too. No whine yet, but it hasn't leaked terribly much.

Good to know about the oring that's not in the kit, thanks @nickolai
