greetings, I thought i'd document a small repair I had to do to my oil pan because the dumb F#*k PO used a self tapping drain plug (on left) and lots of silicone goop to keep the pan from leaking.

Nothing too difficult, just time consuming and messy... a new pan from TOYOTA will cost close to $130. The tap cost me $15 and the new drain plug was $4.25.

removed the lower pan and tapped the hole oversized to a M14 - 1.5 thread. tapped from the inside of the pan out the bottom. use lots of grease on the tap and take it easy. replacement plus was labeled M14 - 1.5 OVER SIZE on the package from Autozone. Standard plug thread is M12 - 1.25

shot of the mating surface of the upper oil pan. putty knife worked well to separate the lower steel pan from the upper Aluminum pan. spend a lot of time cleaning the mating surfaces. Use TOYOTA FIPG (black)

all bolted up and back together. So far so good. 67in*lbs torque on the pan bolts. You'll need some extensions for the rear portion of the pan because the steering rods and sway bar get in the way of your ratchet.
