Truck had around 355,200 when fuel filter was changed. Purchased from original owner around 345,000. Is it original? The acceleration is noticeably improved.
almost beast like 😂🤣😜 but not quite

Prob not vintage original, but it is OEM.
Heard of these things going 200k+, tho practically speaking the interval in the 1st world is about triple that of the 3rd world.

352,000 on my 1997, I’m sure it was restricted I could barely climb hills before changing filter. Now I can actually increase speed wile driving up hill, even need to slow down

This is what mine looked like when I changed it a couple years ago. Didn't have any running issues and didn't notice any change in performance (which was already good), but can't imagine it had been changed any time recently. Pardon the carnage, I just hacked it open

Looking quite used alright. Did you guys get rusty gas out of them?

I did on my 4Runner fuel filter that hadn't been replaced in about 20 years.

No rust in mine thank goodness.
Is the 4runner same style as the 80, Metal case ? Hopefully it was easier to change, although the 80 filter isn’t too bad of a job.

Yes, metal case. More difficult to change. Terrible location, right above cross member on passenger side. One of the nuts was rounded off, a sign that it wasn't original and someone else had encountered difficulties. I gladly handed the job off in my carport to someone with more skills and experience.

You need to cut open a new filter so we can make an honest side by side comparison.
This would definitely allow a more scientific analysis
Anyone have a spare they might be willing to donate to science? Too bad I didn’t perform a flow test prior to cross sectioning. :(

I would like to also add, upon starting (post filter change) the start is quicker and engine sounds stronger and instantly revs high. Idle at stop lights is smoother.

Better test would be a flow test between an old filter and a new filter. Rig up a connection with a gallon of fuel dripping through. See if the new flows faster than the old. I'm guessing there would be no significant difference.

If it were my old filter their would be major difference in flow, but that filter was more of a restrictor rather than a filter.

I'm just here for the Toyota folks to claim Toyota cardboard is superior to any cardboard an aftermarket filter could offer.

Always love cutaways. Doesn't look very used at all for the mileage. Must be using Toyota brand gasoline.

Changed mine at 340,000, looked almost identical. It was original as the bolts were all pristine. It was a pain in the neck to get to - if I recall correctly got most of it from underneath.

Its made in Japan, so yes its moe betta

Nice 👍🏼 looks tasty. How many miles were in the truck?

Close to 200K if memory serves. I have 340K on Cruiser now.

The one on my LX470 @ 100K was just about as bad and had some 'sludge' in it.

We have some questionable gas stations around here (small town USA). No telling what is in the bottom of those big underground tanks.
