Hi all, I can't seem to keep tension on my A/C belt. It loosens up after a few miles until I eventually run out of adjustment. I've been through two belts this way. Alternator belts are perfectly fine.

Has anyone had this issue?

I had poor luck with OEM belts so I switched to Gates. No problems for over 3 years.

Are you tightening the belt, then tightening the nut on the pulley? Otherwise the adjuster may work loose

Bad idler bearings?

don't run ac :meh:

A bit late for that. I just finished rebuilding the compressor, installing a new evaporator, new expansion valve, new o-rings, etc.

Correct.

Bad idler bearings?

I checked the idler bearing. No visible play. I took it apart and regreased it as well.

is the belt stretching or is the tensioner just backing off

The belt is stretching.

I'm currently running this Gates belt: Product | Gates Catalogue

1990560

Use a Toyota belt. Not cogged. It's designed for non cogged belts.
