I have a 72 with a 1F that needs to come out. I have a 75 2F to go back in. I have a few things i would like to get you opinions on. On my 1F I have a header with a rochester carb on the intake with a stock air cleaner. Should I use my header and 1F intake? What carb should I get? The Rochester is about had it. Is there a big differance in a header and the stock manifold? Also the guy I got the 2F from used an eletric fuel pump. Can I use my 1F pump and put it on the 2F? If not what do you think is the best route there? There are 2 big freeze plugs that are not in flush with the block. The was no seepage of oil, but does not look right to me. Would you take them out and put new ones back in? And the last question. What is the best way to clean an engine and what is the best paint to use? Thanks for your time, you guys have helped me out a ton so far.

If you are doing a total clean up of the 2F:
Remove all the parts from the block except the head and valve cover.
Place card board covered by newspaper all around the motor to absorb the gunk that will come off.
Replace newspaper as needed.
Tape off any openings in the block you don't want stuff going into.
Put some kerosene in a spray bottle and soak the engine down.
Use putty knives, screwdrivers, tooth pics, what ever it takes to remove the worst the the grease.
Now use wire brushes and more kerosene to remove the remaining stuff.
Wipe it down to get as much of the kerosene off as possible.
Now use what ever your favorite cleaner is to remove the oily residue from the block. I used Greased Lightning. Finally, spray the block with water from a spray bottle and wipe it off as you go. This removes the cleaner residue.
Use a wire wheel on a drill to remove any flaking paint or rust. Blow off with an air hose.
Use high temp engine primer and paint for the engine. Mask it off, apply the primer, let dry and paint.

Get a new fuel pump for the 2F. You have no idea how much longer your 1F pump will last.

Yes you can use the 1F intake and header. A lot of folks will tell you to use the stock manifold if it's in good shape. Which ever way you go, get a good Fel-Pro or Remflex gasket for the header/intake. Don't faint when you see the price of the Remflex.

Post up pics of the freeze plugs. I personally would leave them alone.

Get an OEM Carb. Post up in the wanted section for one.
