Valve Cover Nuts/Seal

Hello Guys, I blew a cylinder head gasket a while ago on my 73 FJ and decided to go about taking the head out and changing all the gaskets. I realized however When I got my gasket kit everything fit except the valve cover nut seals. In the photo the left seal is the new one and the right seal is the new one. They both slip in but the old valve cover nuts won't fit with the new seal. Anyone know how to resolve this problem?
