1997 Land Cruiser FZJ80/LS Conversion asking $17,500
JT3HJ85J1V0167270
The conversion was completed in 2018 with approx. 35K miles since conversion and has proven to be reliable mod for an older Cruiser.
We found a 97 in Louisville that had the FZ engine removed and thought it would make a good experiment. Conversion Kit came from Markd 4WE in Australia. We found 2011 Avalanche 5.3 Gen IV with a 6L80 and 51, 833 miles (3GNMCEE04BG321317) . The 5.3/6L80 swap uses factory 80 series HF2AV T case, not the 60 series split case. LMG Gen IV 5.3 with E38PMC . AFM deactivated with HPT tuners AFM/DOD system still in place with no tick to date. Battery switched from left to right side-OE box included (space used for GM ECM and added fuse panels for conversion)
Conversion included 6L80 Derale trans cooler, new fuel tank, Deatch works fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, K&N intake filter, uses GM BCM for backup lights, GM alternator and A/C compressor working with new Toyota dryer and condenser (evaporator replaced in 2020), Toyota radiator retained with a custom fan shroud and GM fan, no overheat problens. OE Toyota instruments used and working as designed. Front bearings replaced at the time of converison with Japanese Koyos, Transfer case, drive shafts serviced at time of conversion. Falken Wildpeak AT3 LT265/75R16 tires.
Recent work; New battery, front knuckle service-replaced seals, repacked bearings, new front brakes and rotors, replaced steering box 3/15/2021 with a reman unit. Oil and filters changed every 5,000 miles with Amsoil synthetic and Wix or Royal purple filters, trans serviced with AC Delco filter and Amsoil Dex VI ATF.
The problematic rear 1/4 panels replaced at time of conversion, with parts from Arizona, hood has rust bubbles on driver side front edge otherwise the hood is solid, rear bumper needs attention. Floors are solid and frame is good. Window seals need replacing, removed rack and holes blocked with screws and o rings. (Leaking steering box helped to prevent rust). Shifter needs indexing.
This is a solid cruiser that needs cosmetic work; new front seat covers, row 2 and 3 are good, seals on flares need seals, I have a new LC rear plackard-OE was broken, spare axles included and cats from LS included with some additional pieces are included.
18 month old, second in the oven, old house sold new house closed on, moving and other projects, more work hours brought fun project to a halt, don't want to see the LC sit!
Heavy lifted work completed, make refinements to suit your taste and not mine. Contact with questions. additional pictures sent on request.
