New to the forums. Appreciate the depth of experience and advice. Recent purchase of a 1997 FZJ80. Left rear turn signal light doesn't work and also does not come on when the hazards are pressed. Bulb and bulb connection is good. Wondering whether the flasher relay would be most logical thing to replace as next step, coming from a guy with little mechanical experience but willing to learn. Have searched the forums but couldn't really answer the question.

Check for voltage at the socket.

Toyota switches the ground side, not the hot so there's always hot to the socket. If you have 12V at the socket, then your issue is the ground. Odds are you can replace a $28 section of harness that is the LR taillight socket harness and it will fix your issue.

Appreciate the quick (and inexpensive) advice!

The +12 is switched for the turn signals and the ground is constant to the lamp sockets for both front and rear turn signals from 1991-1997.
