About to pull the trigger on a 1997 FZJ80 40th Anny Tripple Locked. What would you think a good deal would be? This is my first Land Cruiser. Needs some tlc for sure. Clean title 185K miles.

$64,000.02

I have the same truck. But green. And here in socal, I could get $30k for mine.
Before you make an offer, see if the seller will agree to an inspection including a compression test. Need more info on the motor knock in the video.
Also the airbag light on the dash should not be on when it’s running. That’s an indicator of a possible accident in the past or the airbag sensor under the center console needs to be replaced.
Report back with the results!

Passenger fender rusted all the way thru. How the rest of the undercarriage? Exterior doesn't seem to be well maintained which would leave me to think the mechanical maintenance was neglected.

Seems to be a bit of bubbling rust under the paint. How does the frame look? Florida tag but could be/have been a NE vehicle. Also post a photo of the VIN or of the lockers on the axles. Just need to make sure someone didn't just pop a locker switch in an unlocked vehicle. I probably wouldn't pay $18k based on what I'm seeing.....mostly because of the rust I think I am seeing. But that doesn't mean $18k isn't where the market is.

That body rust is troubling. That is either the tip of a big rust iceberg that is vehicle-wide or the result of a substandard collision repair to the front of the vehicle.

I can get it for 7k. I’m sending the frame shortly

Apologies, I wasn't specific enough. The axle code is on the VIN plate. Read post #8:

K294 correct?

Li[stick on a pig.

The left side of the first pic is of the exhaust O2 port with one stud completely broken off, no O2 sensor, and the other stud rotted almost completely off.

They have slobbered POR-15 all over the bottom of the truck to try to "stop" the rust. They did a horrible job of it too.

That looks to be scary and I'm in the Midwest.

Gamble at 7k?

Why are you buying it?

Because it's a 40th?
Because it's triple locked?

I would say neither of these should influence your decision.

After that, it will be up to you and how much you're willing to deal with rusted bolts.

Do you do your own work? If so, you can deal with rust better. I do all my own work and have a sequence of how I deal with rusted bolts and I am very good at drilling/threading broken studs.

If you pay someone else to do your work, then no, because they will start charging you by the hour, not by flat rate.

I'm not a good person to ask about how much to pay because I'm never right. I tend to rescue old rusty vehicles that I should have never touched , for way too much money.
