Took the VC to powder coater today. They won’t warranty the powder unless they sand blast it, I am not letting them blast it. So it’s on me if it fails, they are baking it a few times though.

I will be working all weekend on my 80. I got a few more things in for my engine and I also got another knuckle to do as well as master and booster plus rear brakes. Not to mention all the control arm bushings.

Should be a hot and dirty weekend! 😂

Cheers

Don’t know if I mentioned it yet but I am doing a rear heater delete.

Had this little goodie around for awhile just for that.

Also found this little piece of goodness in my stash today, haven’t seen it in near a year. 🙄

In the shop for 17hrs yesterday. Have not had a day off since May, feeling a bit burned out today but still going to the shop this afternoon for 2-4hrs.

Here is my list to finish it up and get on the road:
-Finish the engine, mostly now it’s just the upper intake manifold. Last few parts should be here Monday, after that only o2’s to order and install.
-Install new engine mounts before dropping in the engine.
-Scrub the trans and tcase.
-Scrub frame rails from engine bay back.
-Finish installing booster and master, it’s half done.
-Rebuild rear outer axle.
-Rebuild rear brakes, including ebrake.
-Install new ebrake cable.
-Install new tres.
-Install RedHead rebuilt steering box with 105 sector shaft.
-Install loser and upper ujoints in steering column and the rag joint too plus the firewall seal.
-Delete rear heater and install new heater valve.
-Yank the running boards.
-Change diff and tcase gear oil.
-Clean up and install engine wiring harness. Thought I had a busted injector connector but checking it yesterday and it’s all good.
-Install new DEPO headlights.
-Clean up air cleaner and charcoal canister, then install.
-Once engine is in install radiator and plumbing.
-Install all new power steering lines.
-Install new fuel pump and sending unit.

That’s most of it to get it on the road. These two pics are for motivation, got to keep pushing forward!

Once it’s on the road I will do the following;
-New wheels and tires.
-OME lift
-New bushings in all control arms and panhards.
-Rebuild sway bars.
-Install drivers seat cushion.
-Install stereo.
-SLEE belly skid.
-MetalTech sliders.

That will get it trail worthy. More planned but this gets it going and useable big time.

Cheers

Awesome build, love the attention to detail and clean new parts

What paint do you recommend for things like this - chassis components?

I pretty much use this on everything. Flat for chassis, semi when I want a little gloss and the high temp when I need that.

Few quick things done on the engine in the last hour.

New throttle cable is installed, just need to yank the booster, set the nut and I can install it and the master cylinder.

At the same time I am doing a full refurbish on the steering column.

This is a 200,000 mile Cruiser. Probably don’t need to change all of these.

None are really worn out or trashed. However, this build is more or less a refurbish. I like to reset things to zero in a refurbish. The old ones defiantly are looser in the ujoints and the rag joint is hard as a rock but no slop on any of the original joints. I may regret not changing the shaft in the future, it’s boot is hard as a rock but at $150 for the shaft, I am skipping it for now. The bonus is now I have great access to the booster bolts! 😄

Got my new caps in for the hubs today so tapped them on.

I think new (as in new Cruiser) these would have been black. This is how Toyota delivers them these days though and I am fine with it, don’t care to paint them on my trucks. I also know some folks like wheel caps but I don’t run them, they get destroyed off-road so they are not for me and I don’t mind the look without them. So I tossed the ones on this truck in the spare parts bin. 😄

Cheers

Out with the old!

The old is probably fine, I have never really driven this Cruiser. Like I say, it’s a refurbish though and a reset to zero. I like to do it once and this will last what 20+yrs? Not to mention I may not be able to get a new booster from Toyota for $420 for to many more years.

Ian done after 13 & 1/2hrs in the shop, install tomorrow evening.

Cheers

Original dust caps were yellow Cad, not black.
