1993 Cruiser Tranny slipping, only in reverse after 10mph???? (1 Viewer)

Just like the title says, while backing up today in the morning, my tranny started to all of the sudden slip .... At first, I thought I just didn't put it into reverse/gear correctly, but I tried it again and a noticed that it would go into reverse/gear with no problem, but after I reached 10mph it started to slip and the rpms/engine just reved up ??? Hmmmm? I drove it for about 20mins and the tranny works flawessly, shift points are smooth and fast.. I then drove it again in reverse and the same s***! Tranny slipped again once it reached 10mph. I can't go faster than 10mph in reverse without the tranny slipping ...I drove the cruiser another 10 miles like manual says and checked the tranny fluid level and it was right on the Hot side and fluid looked good (nice and red). I have never flushed out the tranny, but have changed the fluid religiously every 10K miles.. My question is, what could be the problem? Should I just flush the whole tranny system out? Has anyone ever had a simliar experiance with this tranny( it is the bus tranny 1993 cruiser)

That's one I'd toss Rodney at transmissions@optusnet.com.au He's the A442F guru in Australia. He's actually a transmission specialist but owns and drives an 80 with the manly A442F like all of us who are not light in the shorts...

thank you Idahodoug, I will surely drop him an e-mail, this is got me kind of stressed out .. I love my cruiser and dont want to get rid of it, but the replacing the tranny right now is too steep for me (with my baby and all).. Hopefully it is something small.

I guess I'm goofy but anytime I need to reverse enough to have to drive 10 mph or more to get there in reasonable time, I uhhh, just turn around to go forward. What am I missing here?

bjowett, Hey I will let you know asap, I have to do a couple things to this one before i give up. I want to flush it all out and then replace the transmission filter. Then we will see what happens...
