Back up for sale is my JDM 1992 HZJ73. I listed this for sale a few years back but lost my job and had to hold onto it. I've gone back and forth about selling this but I am now on the road full time, and this truck is a project. I will list everything about it to the best of my ability so any interested parties have the full story regarding condition.

Good:
- New head unit + front speakers, CarPlay, etc
- Sankei tie rod ends
- New rear rotors and pads, I forgot about the hub rebuild for the front, so I still haven't had that done. Dealership wanted $1200 to do them and I didn't have the time
- A/C retrofit to r134a
- No major engine problems
- new LED bulbs from Stedi AUS

Bad:
- some paint bubbling and rust apparent around windshield
- leaf springs bushing are shot - was planning on an OME light duty lift but not going to get around to it
- dent in rear chrome bumper
- exhaust has a leak
- visors could be replaced, they don't stay in place and always fall
- rear window rubber is shot, windows do open
- rear tire rubber is dry rotted, at this point it's just decoration
- speedometer cable gets hung up a bit and occasionally makes some noise

Price: $16,500 OBO

This truck is absolutely a project but from everything I have seen the bones are pretty good. As far as I am aware, rust is very minimal. I will be posting all the photos I have, good and bad so hopefully all questions will be answered.

If someone imports 73 series in this condition from japan will cost them more then your asking price..Minimum 5k more
Plus Shipping is not cheap anymore.. The shipping costs are killing many deals..

Yup, the is genuinely a good deal. I’ve put it all out there and I’m not hiding anything; everything I know is listed here.

Did you try to put the car for sale on other platforms? Craigslist is not bad too. Its $5 to post an ad for 1 month..
Its good that you are not hiding information for potential buyers..

I haven’t. Hoping a mud member and general LC enthusiast would be interested but, crickets.

bump

Do I need to have a raffle or something to get some interest? I'd assumed this would actually get some attention with all the other cough-overpriced-cough 70s for sale

The rust is keeping me at bay to be honest. Maybe the market is softening too, but you're priced well it seems for what it is.

Pre-craziness, rusty HDJ81s were going for 12-14k so I'm guessing that's just above that is where this will end up.

But who knows. You've got an honest ad.

Fair enough. I don’t think it’s that bad. It could of course be better but all things considered pretty good. If rust is your biggest hang up you can come by and look at it yourself, assuming you’re nearby.

I'm in the same rusty boat. If this was cheaper (already a great value @ 16,500) I'd consider it, but if I'm spending north of 15k I don't really want to deal with that much rust. I'm sure people will think im crazy, thinking you can't get a rust free cruiser for 15k but so be it. Just my take on things. GLWS. Super cool truck!

With some effort, the rust can be fixed. It still looks relatively early stages and not completely out of control. This truck is not going to win a beauty pageant but it has excellent bones and is waiting for the right person to build it to be a proper trail machine.
