Just a feeler here - Just curios what you think my resale options are here in the states. While I'd like to keep this car, I will likely sell it before exiting Costa Rica in June OR bring it back to the states in hopes of selling this beauty. I have far too many toys stateside, and while I would like to keep the 80, I feel it may be a nice opportunity for someone to get a fully sorted LHD Turbo Diesel stateside.

Please note: Current trail lights are round. Plan to switch out soon.

If you are interested in this - please let me know.

I'm thinking we can start at $29K - I'm basing these prices on what I've seen on the eBay side and some items listed around here. It will include the delivery cost from Central America to FL, NY, or MI where I live.

Is it factory paint? Any accidents? Is that a Venezuelan built model? I know they have some weird differences compared to the Japanese built 80s.

For comparison, a RHD 5 speed HDJ81, locked with app. 127k miles just sold on ebay for around $15,000. Likely is sold for $14,500 or less based on my comms with the seller, and it was on ebay for well over a month.

Is LHD worth $15K despite the mileage?

For 15k I could do the conversion to LHD if they were like vehicles. For years I saved all the parts to do the conversion to a RHD 80. It is more involved than the earlier series. All the HVAC has to be replaced as well as the dash, steering box, firewall mounts etc... It isn't as simple as it sounds. I ended up selling all those parts to guys in the Phillipines doing the conversions. I know they are spending at least 1k on the parts with shipping just to get the parts to the Phillipines.

Is the rocker panel dented under the passenger door?

I would probably bring it Stateside then try to sell it. If it is good as it looks you'll get significantly more once it is landed and can be inspected in depth. Everyone will low ball it when it is still overseas expecting all the worst.

Would love to see this one and other 5spd 80s stateside. 29k seems a little steep. I shopped these hard while I was living in Nicaragua and had a hard time finding one without weird mods and or was ratted out. This one looks nice from these pics. Would love to see more

The first year of production for the 80s in Venezuela was 1993, offered only with gas engines (fuel injected and carburation for the lower trims). The FJ62 was manufactured until 1992 in Venezuela.

What size are the tires?

Theres a rhd 5spd recently sold for $13k on ebay /eastcoastalso currently a rhd 5spd 1991 in SF area that’s been for sale for 2mo. At $19k -no sale- with 100k less km on it. LHD does get a premium but I’m not sure if a $10k premium and inability to examine the condition would have much success.

Those are all 5spds. Once you get into Autos.....price drops another $5-10k.

given its not local or inspectable.......this would make it an uphill battle to sell even at $20k.

The rhd 5spd in the Bay Area was down to $15.5k and finally sold a truck probably not much less. pretty good price for a 5spd /rhd.locked.

at this point I think the only ones that will pull over $20k would be the South American ones that have the latest iteration of 1fz withthe coilpacks/distributorless ones with better intake and 30hp/torque more. For all intent and purpose it’s like getting a supercharged 1fz.

So the question is would be if it is legal in all 50 states, and think about your target market is it a daily driver or someone that is looking for a toy, if it is a daily driver I think a lot of people couldn’t justify that price if it is a third or fourth car that it is going to limit it to just assume that choose to spend that money on a toy

Also for me, I don’t know if those other right-hand drive or a true comparison, because I would not even consider purchasing a right-hand drive whereas having a left-hand drive I’m guessing 90% more exposure
