Hello All,
Did some looking and learned that all US model 91-92 FJ80's came with only the Alloy option. I am in need of new stock shocks and went to Toyota Online and there is an option for W/O Alloy wheels (PN below). These shocks come out to a crazy price of $23 each for front and $20 each for the rear. Now THAT is a GREAT deal! Question is, has anyone ever ran these shocks for FJ80's with factory Alloy wheels? is there a material difference such as compression/rebound/length etc? Thanks for any help!

48511-69186 Shock Absorber, Front Exc. Alloy Wheels. From 01/90- $23.11
48531-69235 Shock Absorber, Rear Exc. Alloy Wheels. From 01/90- $19.91

Toyota likely had slightly different valving in the shocks for heavier steel wheels. Probably makes for a slight difference in ride quality if you get the right/wrong part number. I run new oem shocks and they ride great. Mainly I was concerned of the year of the shocks for the part number rather than the wheels. 91 and 92 had the heavier 3fe motor, so that would likely have a bigger difference in Shock valving.

15x7 alloy wheels and 31x10.50R15 tires were part of the "tow package" in 1991/1992 and had to be specified when ordering . They were standard order in the USdm after that.

I too have a 1991, just went to 33x10.5x15 wheels, now looking at OEM type shocks, don't really need to go much taller (wife would need a step stool).
What did you end up getting for shocks?
