1991 brake hardware question (1 Viewer)

I will be replacing my front brake pads soon on my '91. Regarding the brake hardware, the FSM only shows the metal spring goes between the pads and the thin spring holding in the two rods on the caliper. Looking at pictures of other folks brakes they have the metal clip but no spring on the pads. Was this an upgraded change? Or is this only for '93 and above? My current setup (installed by PO) includes both. Does it matter having one hardware on versus the other? I wouldn't think both should be on there. Below is a pic of mine.

1991 (metal wire) and 1994 (large metal clip) FSMs call them anti-rattle springs. So I guess one should use one or the other but not necessarily both. The large metal clip looks to be the newer/better version?

Those springs attached to the pads don't belong and you need a new set of anti squeal shims. You should probably replace the slide pins as well for a few bucks. Although the FZJ80 used larger rotors and calipers, the physical setup is identical.

Yeah, I ordered a new hardware kit (metal clip, slide pins, and spring to lock in slide pins). Will look into new shims. Looks like Toyota part number (04945-04012) for the shim kit.
