What's this vehicle's history? I'm trying to figure out how the tailgate got so rusty in AZ. Also, what's the rust situation on the frame and fenders?

I'll bet that the tailgate is not original to the rest of the vehicle and the rust there is fairly isolated.

Southern states are no guarantee, especially if they saw any snowy roads like ski areas.
