A little late for this post but did not see it mentioned. The front grill on that cruiser is also not original, it is newer one.

Cheers,

Michael

Rosco mentioned it already. :D

Good Toyota diesel mechanic? I highly recommend Ciaran Wilson if you can get into his busy schedule. He's highly in demand these days. He's a Master Toyota Technician, and he's very familiar with Toyota diesels as he has worked on several of them and has even done some firewall (RHD-LHD) and diesel swaps. His shop is in Langley, and his phone number is (604) 514-3716.

I just found it at the auction - was sold last saturday - it is a BJ73 - not a BJ74! So, someone is trying to scam you - imagine lifting the hood and not seeing a turbo!

Anyway, it is an "A" grade, has had a fender replaced, multiple body dents, and I didn't get the writing translated.

This guy is scamming you. Run very fast.

Regards

ah yes, it is BJ730004450

one smaller sized dent where the door meets the front fender, 3 parking lot size dents, a minor scratch and front drivers fender replaced.
full power options and AC
no lockers but has limited slip in the rear
paint fade on the roof
"C" interior (tears in fabric)

how he is promising to land that unit at your door for $6400 is beyond me...
my gut feeling is i don't trust the seller. i can see what he paid for it and with shipping, auction costs, trucking etc it just doesn't add up.

got a name of this individual?

cheers

WOW! That a lot worse than the pics look...shows you how easily fooled one can be with the condition of a vehicle with the right kind of pics.

Many thanks my friend. I am seriously considering skipping Japan and finding a nice cruiser in the USA from a reputable dealer or member of this forum. I even know of this guy!

The more I try to deal with Japan, the more I think they are trying to rip-off naive Canadians!

I saw a 97 80 40th ed on ebay for US $10k -- that is at least half of a local diesel. Seems a good deal, shipping is only $1k to Seattle, and I could pick it up there.

Dont buy from the US - can't get a diesel from there - just buy from a reputable importer and you will save the grief of ending up with a POS.

Good luck.

ya, i guess - i have owned those, nice trucks - but i'll never own another gasser 80 series, too hard on fuel, too expensive to fix up the bits and pieces that break on them.

Diesel rocks!

Regards

actually, i have owned the 1994 gasser 80 and the fuel milage was about 18 mpg with a light foot. you can buy a LOT of gasoline for $10K-$15K...
this might be your best route...

for us diesel bigots, we just need to have the diesel engine. the gasser is torquey engine that goes wild. the towing won't be as nice as with a diesel and you will loose 10 mpg (average) by driving gasser but they are nice...

just my unbiased view...
cheers

Car dealers are the same in every country and every culture. It always attracts the scum sucking bottom dwellers. Japan is no different from anywhere else.

My father in law is a recently retired manager from Toyota Japan's R&D division, and still living in Toyota City: he was able to get my wife and me a very nice vehicle, because he knew who to talk to, where to look and what to look for.

There are some amazing deals to be had if you can avoid the septic tankers out to scam everybody.

I agree in part, but for a long term buy the diesel is the way to go, better mileage, less engine problems. I loved my 1996 FZJ80, was comfy, powerful, put an OME suspension on it with 33's and it was awsome, but didnt like the gas engine, didn't like the mileage.

This has all been said before though eh:)

Either way cruisers are the awsome.

(I guess I'm a little stoked right now, got an HZJ73 yesterday and absolutly love that 6cyl diesel - amazing engine.)

HEY Louis!!!
Glad to hear you got the trucks..I Hope yours works out for you.
Good luck with em..

Richard

Thanks Rich,

I have another one arriving on mon or tuesday, can't wait ot try it out too. If you are ever near Ottawa you will ahve to come and try one out - the smoothest diesel I have ever heard.

i know what you mean, the 1HZ is a sweet ass engine. i just delivered a HZJ77 and had a HZJ73 show up. they really are a powerful engine... good long legs and very quiet... an excellent replacement for the 12HT noise box...

is this the first one you had a chance to drive Louis?

I believe they are exactly the same -- the 1HD-T has the turbo, the other is naturally aspirated. Some 80's came with the 1HZ but are rare.

Are a 1HZ and 1HD-T similar for power and noise?
Come to think of it, what is the difference?
